Competitive multiplayer modes have been axed for Saints Row: The Third because the majority of fans want single-player and co-op, Volition's told Game Informer.

Both previous Saints Row games featured competitive multiplayer modes but they weren't nearly as popular as the main story. Because of this, Volition's scrapped competitive modes for Saints Row: The Third, it says.

"The majority of people wanted the single-player and co-op experience, so we're focusing on blowing that out of the water," senior producer Greg Donovan explains to Game Informer.

Every mission and activity in the third game can be played with a co-op partner, says Volition, with full drop-in and drop-out support.

"We want this cohesive experience where players walk away going 'I can't believe I'm seeing this. I can't believe I'm f***ing doing this,'" he added, specifically discussing the game's single-player missions.

The first proper Saints Row: The Third details arrived earlier this week.

In the same GI article, the developer said determining how far it can go with risky Saints Row 3 content is "like defining porn".

quote Excerpt From GAMEINFORMER Article
The Morning Star. Run by the main antagonist of the game Phillipe Loren.

They are suit wearing chains-smoking Europeans.
They peddle weapons and prostitutes and prefer sniper rifles and and SMG's.

Luchadores. They patrol the southwest area in SUV's.The deal drugs and run gambling rings. They like heavy weapons and close quarters combat.

The Deckers. They deal with security and money laundering.

Along with the gangs there is a group to take out the gangs. They are known as the STAG (Special Tactical Anti Gang) unit.

The city uses landmarks to show you roughly where you are so you aren't looking at the mini map as much.
Volitions have specifically made the skyline visible from almost any point in Steelport so you know which direction is downtown.
Think of it like How Gotham is really a character in of itself.Steelport is made to be another character and not just a city.

No longer do each gang have their own stories which stick to the gang.Gangs will now interact with each other and how you interact and with these gangs and the decisions you make will impact your experience in significant ways.

Pedestrians will also talk about you actions. So if you blow up a building for a mission, the pedestrians will talk about it.
Or you can decide to infiltrate the building which will gain you weapons and a new safehouse.

One mission has you capture a boat full of prostitutes. You can choose to sell the ship back to the owners or you can keep it and start your own prostitution ring making more money over the course of the game.

There are also flashpoints (which are this games gang takeovers) around the city where each gang will be doing their own illegal things. One is the Luchadores protecting some drugs. This is where you can call for an air strike and wipe them all out if you choose to.

You can take the out/over however you want.

Character creation is made even better with more customisations like more skin characters. It says you can use your character from SR2.
Volition also hint at being able to share your characters over the internet.

You gang cars also have more customisation options.Basically you can upgrade your gang cars as much as you could your own personal cars in SR2.

Also now you can customise you gang like you would yourself. So you can have your gang looking however you want and not just predetermined outfits that we saw in SR2.You can mix and match four outfits for your gang.

There is a massive guy who will end up being an asset to the Saints.
quote Massive guy
This guy is a tower of a man. He is very intelligent but The Syndicate capture him to make a clone army. However these clones end up being dumb as bricks. These clones are shipped out cheaply to the gangs to use as muscle. Using weapons against these guys will weaken them which then you have to pull of a QTE to defeat. If Oleg is in the same place as them then there will be a big fight like The Incredible Hulk going against Abomination
quote Short Article
Saints Row has always been entertaining, but the third installment will need a definite boost if it wants to compete with the big boys.

And that seems to be THQ's plan. According to new information garnered from the recent PlayStation Magazine, we learn of a variety of upgrades and features that may help Saints Row: The Third excel in the sales category: first, as choice and freedom continues to become more popular this generation, it should be known that "the player will make major decisions that dictate the ending." As you gather up the city in your iron grip, you'll be able to build safe houses, but you have to eliminate the "Flash Points" (random pockets of rival gangs) in the area before you can do so. They also claim that story missions will be "far more diverse," and the graphics will be significantly improved thanks to better detail and a "slightly less cartoonish aesthetic."

For our part, we're just wondering if they plan to hire any pornstars to be involved in the game. Or if they'll only be added via extra DLC at a later date.

The part that stood out the most was when he mentioned there WILL be choices that affect the ending. Looks like the graphics will be more realistic as well.

THQ unveils the Initiation Station for Saints Row: The Third, a dedicated character creator which will allow users to craft and share characters that will be usable in the full game, which is out this fall.

Later this year, THQ will continue the story of the Third Street Saints gang in Saints Row: The Third. One of the cool things about the open-world action series, other than the obvious and very intentional riffing on Rockstar Games‘ Grand Theft Auto franchise, is the robust set of character creation tools. You create your very own gang leader by tweaking a wide range of options and that creation then integrates into the game’s cutscenes. The new game won’t be out until the 2011 holiday season, but THQ has announced plans to give players early access to the game’s character creation features with something called Initiation Station.

Like some twisted version of the Spore Creature Creator, Initiation Station will offer players the opportunity to “create, share and download the most outlandish videogame characters ever seen, and then upload them as playable characters in the upcoming Saints Row: The Third,” a press release reveals. There’s been no word from THQ yet on whether your created character from the last game is ported into The Third, as was the case in the move from the first to second games, but the press release seems to be encouraging more unusual creations, such as “your favorite train wreck celebrity-turned reality TV star,” “your least favorite overpaid prima donna professional athlete,” or “Steelport’s newest superhero (or villain).” Whether that’s just good-times PR language or these created characters will have some other role in the final game is unclear.

What is clear is that created characters can be saved and shared among friends, with the idea being to promote the game’s improved online co-op component. The Initiation Station will be released as a free download for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC at some point before the full game’s fall release. As an added incentive, THQ is offering early access to Initiation Station as a pre-order bonus to those who reserve their copy of Red Faction: Armageddon — out June 7 — with U.K. retailer GAME. There’s no mention of a similar pre-order offering with any U.S. retailers in the press release.
