Is it worth it??

The 3DS has never been and never will be "superior" to the Vita. The Vita is an absolute powerhouse and blows the 3DS out of the water if you wanna talk about specs and design. What IS superior on Nintendo's end is their software library, which is only going to get stronger beginning early this year.

Imo Persona 4 Golden makes the Vita more than worth it. Everything else is just a bonus lol. There are a handful of 5-6 solid Vita exclusives plus you have access to a huge collection of PSP games, a bunch of other applications, and if you have a PS3, cross-play. On the down side, it's really REALLY expensive and it's questionable as to how much Sony has planned for the Vita, but it's still early.

I have a 3DS and a Vita and I love them both, but if I had to pick, I would go with the Vita. It all depends on what kind of games you like and if you're willing to shell out the extra cash. People complain about the library for the Vita, but it hasn't even been a year yet. P4G, Gravity Rush, LittleBigPlanet, Assassin's Creed, Ragnarok, and Uncharted are all great games, plus Sly Cooper is coming out really soon I think. I wouldn't say that's horrible, especially since you can download PS1/PSP games to keep you busy in the mean time. It's up to you.

That depends on what kind of game your mother and sister like, and how much they like them. The Vita's library, while it has some killer titles (Persona 4 Golden being one of the few games to enter the sacred realm that its predecessor Persona 3 FES, Red Dead Redemption, and Fallout 3 rule over), it's hardly what I'd call a substantial lineup. If the Vita's games are what they're into, then go for it.

Since we're comparing the 3DS, I'll just add that I own both systems and don't actually have a 3DS game; I only have DS games. That backwards compatibility (as opposed to the admittedly huge list of PSP/PS1 games available for the Vita on PSN) as well as the lower price would drive me to recommend the 3DS over the Vita, at least until the libraries of both are filled out more.

Also, if you own a PS3, some games on the PlayStation Network are cross-buy which means that when you buy it, you get it on PS3 and on your Vita.

It depends entirely on what types of games you like. There are a lot of action games, quite a few sports games, but still not many games in other genres, like RPG. If you think it has enough games that interest you, I'd still advise waiting for the price drop which will most likely be coming later this year. I'm still waiting myself, because there just aren't any Vita exclusives that I'm dying to play.
