	Log in to remove this sponsored message It seems that following the drop in sales that the Vita suffered in it's second week out many retailers took it upon themselves to drop the price of the Vita by up to 20%. Whilst this isn't something that Sony has done and just what retailers have decided to do themselves it seems that an official announcement similar to the one made by Nintendo is inevitable. This price cut seems to be an attempt to boost severely flagging sales and with the 3DS currently dominating sales in a similar way to the DS many moons ago it seems something that Sony really needs to consider. Since at the moment this is just Japanese retailers cutting their prices and not Sony the question remains as to whether there will be any change to the prices for the rapidly arriving releases in Europe, America and Australia. ------------------- These are hard times for innocent bystanders

	It's selling about as well as the psp did, they are overrating, though physical software sales are probably down alot due to every game being on psn and that's where they make their money, probably why they are so quick to act. EDIT wow I need to read articles before commenting as does everyone else they are only cutting the price on the 3G version just 3G not Wifi. I doubt this has anything to do with nintendo at all it's just because the 3G version is selling so little compared to wifi one. Journalists... can never trust anything they write.

Will Sony learn from Nintendos mistake and cut their prices early to become more competitive from a financial standpoint or will they try to power through? The last few console generations have shown that, even with technically inferior products, the company that gets their console out first tend to get the core gaming demographic and usually hold on to be the dominant console of that generation (Playstation v N64, Playstation 2 v GC/XBox, DS v PSP, and I guess to a certain degree XBox 360 v PS3). With that in mind will a price cut be needed to prevent the 3DS running away with the market like the DS did in the last handheld generation? Considering the Vita sales have slumped whilst the 3DS sales have rose to levels that surpass even those of the DS and the Wii in a similar time frame I feel that this is very much a required step. ------------------- These are hard times for innocent bystanders

Wifi is like 80% sold and 3G was closer to 50% sold last numbers I saw. I think it would only get worse the farther away you get from launch though. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wifi vita was sold out in some places with a ton of 3G on the shelves Also psv sales aren't that bad, it's doing as well as the psp did even a little better. You forgot about Sega's consoles and the wii, Dreamcast came out first and died (WiiU might follow that), Wii came out same time as ps3 and dominated I don't know much about farther back but it certainly isn't first one out wins. 	I know it's not man,but bleepin Nintendo will have everyone slashing prices.I hope they keep it to the 3G only,it's way too early to be doing this. IMAD Defiance it's a perfectly reasonable price for the tech inside it man,you just say this because Nintendo actually overpriced their product.I remember back before the price slash for the 3DS we were impressed with the tech in the PSVita and the price it had. The Wii came out at the same time but it was the price difference and casual market that really forced the big sales numbers there. I was trying to keep the comparisons more direct since comparing any current console to the Wii is kind of comparing apples to oranges. You make a valid point with the Sega systems being released early and not selling well, but a Nintendo system won't flop like that, especially with it's current rate of sales. I wasn't saying that the earliest released console in a generation sells the best, I was saying that the console that sells the best is inevitably released before it's closest competitor. I know it sounds like an insignificant difference but it's the difference between Dreamcast sales and Playstation 2 sales Getting your product out early is vital, especially in something like the console market. It's why companies were willing to take a loss on the first systems shipped in order to get them on the shelves and start getting a market share. Effectively, it's a handheld system, which is often seen as the cheaper alternative, that is now priced higher than a regular gaming system. To use car terminology for a second, if you make a Volvo that is worth £200,000, you stop comparing it to Fords and Mazdas and start comparing it to Ferraris and Lambos. At that point you have to really earn the money since every little issue is scrutinised, and at that point almost as good, just isn't good enough. 	webby the problem isn't really the price,it's that they didn't make it equally priced,if you follow me. I don't know how to word it properly I'm just in awe at how everyone is ready to jump ship when the console has been out for 3 weeks. The 3DS struggled aswell,and was bashed alot too,I just don't think it's time to be thinking of price drops,maybe make them equal in the different forms of currency. ------------------- quote Asyilem What? When comparing purchases, most people couldn't care less whether it packs a punch internally or not. They look at what else they can get for £220. It's a handheld and they feel it should be priced like one.

	Price drop came a little quicker than I expected, but it's not altogether unsurprising. From the point of view of the retailers, I guess they're really just looking to ship units.
