callahanc That is still not entirely true. It does effect even those with lower spawn rate, it's just the classification of "rare" in the strategy guide is not very accurate. Turns out, all but the normal chocobo are considered "rare" creatures, increasig their spawn rates with Battlemania. But not as much as distortion mosters. Exp:All wyverns in the game are considered "rare" mosters with very low spawn rates. Only one or two are distortion mosters, yet it still affects them. Same goes for every cactaur type in the game. Now, your right, it's not a 100% Guaranteed encounter rate, but it's not supposed to do that, only increase the chances. So it does help find shaguma and haguma. But your right, it's not a sure fire way to get them. But don' be calling everyone useless assholes when your missing information on your end or haven't tested it yourself, unlike myself.
