Signs that XIII-3 will be a new game

So, for now, whether or not the continuation for XIII-2 will be a DLC or a new game is up in the air. But TBH, there is some pretty decent evidence that it will in fact be a new game. Such as:


- XIII-3 has been trademarked and got a domain. Square claims it's for "trademark purposes", but that's what they all say. No one could trademark XIII-3 in the first place, as it has the Final Fantasy name.

Unfortunately, a company can trademark a name, protect it, even if it won't use it at all, or until a certain time.
It's just a "in case of need" strategy. If I'm not wrong, The Pokemon Company did the same with "Pokemon + various colors/metals", but they never used these names.

But I have to say that a -3 is almost inevitable indeed, taking into account the ending...
Still... I never played Mass Effect before, but it seems that the 3 has the worst ending a video game could ever have, and the producers told the fans that they will just put a DLC to soften it up a bit, but that it's not gonna change...

I hope SE will not do the same with XIII-2...

Anyway I really hope that we'll have a game with Light as the main protagonist... With Fang and Vanille back as well, and with the grown up Hope.

I have heard rumors of a FFXIII novel series. I haven't read too much into it but it's been speculated that there are thoughts of tying this series up with books.

I'm a big Halo fan and I thought that the novels really supplemented the story well but that was also a shooter (totally different ball park). While I think FF could write some fantastic novels their story telling ability has always been phenomenal with video games so I would rather have another game to finish this great story.

I really wouldn't doubt it if a three was to happen. I would honestly be pretty happy. They just need a bit more tweaking to perfect everything.

The three areas before New Bodhum are the DLC areas, you have to buy either ennemies for the colosseum to appear, or the episode Heads or Tails for Sazh, and in May, the third area will be accessible through the Requiem of the Goddess DLC.

Thus you need an internet connexion, and a PSN account to pay for these DLC.

If you don't have these two things, then the areas won't be accessible, ever.

Ok well, not truly in XIII-2 story, but linked to the XIII-3 hypothesis :

I played XIII again, the whole story, and just defeated Orphan (mother of god, the ending scene always gives me shivers).
In this scene, there is clearly Etro's Gate on the back (and the big version of it just above Eden, city this time), and now, with the story of XIII-2 I understand some things. And they are hints given about a possible 3 (sort of).

When Vanille asks how come everyone is still alive after turning into cieths, Hope replies : "we were somewhere cold and dark".
And If I recall correctly, in XIII-2, in post-game, in Neo Bodhum 700AF, the message from the future Serah says that she's in a place which is dark and cold. So obviously, she can come back, and I believe she will (s**t lol).

Moreover, Snow says just after Hope's line : "it's like I had a glimpse of the future"

Let's remember that in the Void Beyond, Yeul says to Serah that the Goddess blessed 6 l'Cie, plus one, and a child.

And I know understand why when Lightning "explains everything" to Serah in Neo Bodhum 700AF, there are images of the group fighting Barthandelus/Orphan with the lines :

A door that led directly to the throne of the Goddess.
Etro waited beyond the gate, and sent her miracles to the human world. << Brands gone, party wakes up after single-minute-crystal stasis, Serah and Dajh are freed (and teleported on Gran Pulse ahem...)

To me that means the producers knew somehow that they would make a XIII-2.
I mean, no one really understood the meaning of XIII's ending battle before XIII-2 came out. This hints, in my opinion, that the producers had to leave a sense of "unachieved" so that the sequel could be "just in time".

And talking about unachieved things in XIII-2... >.<

I hope there will be a 13-3. I loved the last two games (even though there were loads who didn't like 13 as much).I think they most likely will though since they've alreaddy trademarked the name and literally ended 13-2 with a to be continued. I also heard that in Japan they're releasing two books, the first of which taking place in between 13 and 13-2 and going more indepth about what hapend those first 3 years and more about Snow leaving, and the last I think does take place after the end of 13-2. But even so I doubt they would swich to books to officialy end it and I think the dlc's are just supposed to be set during 13-2 arn't they? Like what Sazh & Lightning & Snow were doing while Serah and Noel were jumping around through time. Also wasn't that whole Godess saving the 6 and one plus a child refering to the main characters from 13 & the one being Serah and the child being Sazh's kid Dajh? Since he was also a L'cie that got released form being crystal.
