Anyone here know of a place to get HIR bulbs (9012) online and shipped to Canada for a reasonable price? Looking for something brighter without using those god awful Nighthawk Platinums and I don't have the moneys to retrofit and go to a full HID setup, although I am planning to do that when the time comes.
I heard that using HID in reflector housings just spray the light around, resulting in less usable light. However I did also learn after some research that there are certain HID bulbs with the cutoffs built into the bulb which allow you to use it in reflector housings, is that the case with the DDM ones?
Please don't put HID bulbs in headlamps not designed for such. It causes bad light reflection as the bulb is TOO powerful for the lense. There is a reason they make projector headlamps. You will blind all oncoming traffic and piss any one in front of you off. If you do adjust the cutoff low enough to not blind anyone you can't see shit anyway.
It's also illegal in most states. If you do however go against my advice, take this piece.. Do not go over 6000k on the temperature of the bulb as you are actually hurting your lighting after that point.
Yeah, I need to echo what has been said about using HID bulbs without proper projector housings. Also, don't be an ass and get blue tinted lights. They look bad, disperse too much light, and actually are worse at lighting (by a long shot) versus standard 4800k (or is it 4400k?) bulbs.

So what's the use of knowing the truth if no one's gonna believe you?
Yeah, I was going to hold off from going HID until I had the time and funds to get the projectors and the kit all in one shot. And the blue tint just filters the light emitted, thus creating even less usable light. I just don't want to spend the $60-70 for those extra bright/super hot burning halogens(Silverstar Ultra/NH Platinum), there's been way too many people coming back and complaining about the short life of those bulbs(I work at a auto parts store). However, I did hear from a friend that there are bulbs called HIR which emit light at a temperature of around 4800k and produce around the same amount of light as HID, but are manufactured to work in reflector housings.
Yeah, those silverstar lights are garbage. I am going to stick with the "low end" Philips bulbs from now on, as I have gone through over four sets of the silverstar ultra lights in under two years, and I wear surgical gloves when I install them (so no oil or dirt gets on them).
