CCP really created something amazing when they dreamed up the EVE universe. Well, tomorrow, worlds are going to collide, because the developer is merging their upcoming PS3 exclusive shooter DUST 514 with their long-running EVE Online MMO.
In a recent post on the official EVE Online site, CCP introduced the community to their terrestrial counterparts in DUST. Think of it as a giant war waged on two fronts: in space and on land. So while EVE players have been tinkering with their space warfare, the mercenaries of DUST have been killing each other on the planets below. Pretty damn cool, if you ask us.
So on January 10, the two are going multi-platform. What does this mean? Aside from being able to chat between the two, DUST players will be able to accept contracts offered by NPC Faction Warfare militias and take part in corporation battles. Better get to know each other if you're looking to hire the ground troops.
Once the DUST closed beta is merged with EVE, players will find their character skills and corporations reset. Some more details regarding the change can be found here on the official site. Also be sure to hit up the source link to find out more about the merge.
It's a massive endeavor for sure, one that I hope CCP manages to pull off successfully. After all, multi-platform play is always something I like seeing, especially when it's done in some unexpectedly creative way. Despite sharing a universe, I couldn't have guessed CCP would find a way to join these two vastly different titles.
