Weapon Question

So SMG's seem less than useful as a whole in this game. Just wanted to say that cuz it's a shame. You can make them SO lite and they would be perfect otherwise. But as it is, a pistol is about the same weight.

But my question is this:

If you upgrade a weapon beyond the highest dmg point, does the dmg still increase or is it capped?

I haven't noticed any damage cap on weapons. It wouldn't make sense anyway.

As far as SMG's go, I also found them rather useless most of the game but lategame when you have the lightweight mark 5 material they really become quite interesting.
A lot of classes want to have as much cooldown reduction as possible. Especially when you only bring a sniper rifle, having an extra SMG for close quarter fighting is amazing, not to mention as a backup in case you run out of ammo.

The problem with this of course is that for the majority of the game your lightweight mod isn't high enough making it not worth the extra cooldown reduction you get. And lategame most people consider SMG's so useless because they haven't used them all game, they forget about it altogether or are simply unfamiliar playing with an extra weapon. I consider this a little bit of a flawed game design to be honest.

As my vanguard lategame I'm now using snipers for long range and switch to an SMG when I charge/nova in. The small rounds and fast burst lets me finish off wounded enemies without wasting a nova, plus the SMG has extended range when you need it. As a cherry on top it also allows me to use both Incendiary *and* Cryo ammo rounds. (Cryo for the SMG. Charging a frozen target is much more fun )
Fully upgraded I can have both a good sniper and SMG and still have a 196% cooldown reduction. That 4% less than 200 is well worth having an extra SMG.

So nobody really knows if the dmg gets capped out when you max the bar?

Don't think so guy... Someone who has the PC version and can look into the file could probably tell ya. I mean you can't use the Spectre shooting range either cause after a point they just die in one shot.

On the PC, there are mods to make the damage incredibly high, meaning it'd go pass the pass. So I'd have to say yes, though I can't be sure.

Hayes1987 aww you beat me too it. I was browsing the web too and from what I read its the same with MP. Can you trust random strangers on the internet? hell yeah!

I can definitely verify that damage goes past the bar. Charged Geth Shotgun 10 does more damage than my Widow 6, even though both have the bar maxed.

Have you seen Turian Soldier with Marksman (dmg rate, hs bonus) who has good aim with a Paladin or high Carnifex? Shit shouldn't even be allowed. I can pretty much go afk in most Gold rounds and let them do all the work.
