Kidnapped Wife

So I went to my homestead, and my kids are running, shadowmere loses his *bleep*ing mind, and there is a bandit rushing at me. Upon killing the bitch(Sorry, she was chasing my kids she was a bitch) I loot a ransom letter. I read it, and it appears that my wife unwittingly was kind to some bandits, who in turn took her captive.

Now this entire process seems buggy, so I am going to list some helpful things I found.

I Literally could not make it to where she was being held before the mission "Auto completed" and she was basically gone. After several failed attempts and re loads I decided to head there before killing the woman at my homestead. I walked up and talked to the person demand the ransom and persuaded her to let my wife go. She released my wife, and... cue bug 2.

Everyone in the camp started to attack my wife and follower, who were dropped to their knees instantly. The bandits weren't hostile to me, but I had to clear the place out so my wife could, you know, leave.

So in short, the two fixes I found to issues, just in case they happen to anyone else are.

1.) Head right to the place your spouse is being held after finding out and reloading your save.
2.) Even if you pay the ransom/persuade the kidnapper, you will most likely have to slaughter the group.

Also, not sure if this was always in the game or not, but it is an interesting event.

If it happens again they can keep her, because she is obviously Princess Peace, sorry, I'm not Mario, I don't have time for that shit.
