Bethesda's Pete Hines just took the stage at QuakeCon and dropped a bomb, Dawnguard is available for PC right now. Yes, that huge content pack that's been out exclusively on Xbox 360 for a month now. That expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that one everyone has been begging for news for, is available not tomorrow or next week -- it's available right freaking now.
PS3 Skyrim players, I've got some bad news. Due to Bethesda being disappointed in the performance of Dawnguard on the PS3, the expansion's release has been postponed -- perhaps indefinitely. From the Bethesda blog:
"We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard’s performance on the PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality."
For PC players, welcome to the glory that is Dawnguard. Your decision to side with either the Dawnguard or their sunlight-avoiding antagonists will change how you interact with Skyrim in dramatic ways. Remember, to trigger the quest that starts Dawnguard, you'll need a character of at least level 10, then you just need to follow the rumors.
Pick up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's expansion Dawnguard on PC right now for only $19.99. The Vampire Lord Harken has returned, and his dastardly plans rest on your support or opposition. Which will you choose? Or, you know, you can keep on collecting cheese wheels.
