There are loads of Medievil weapons which have been left out of Skyrim, most have been actually, let me know what you guys think:
- Thrown weapons. There are currently no throwing axes or throwing knives. Imagine how awesome Assasin builds could have been with these weapons ? These are the weapons i would most like to see in DLC. This could also include eastern style Shirukens and throwing stars or even Indian style Chakram throwing discs. Each could have their own abilities and rarity.
- Blowguns. Again these would make excellent stealth and assasin weapons. You could also mix them with the various potions in skyrim to apply the desired posion or effect to other characters at a distance. There are loads of ways this could be used from hunting to manupulating missions. Would be awesome fun.
- Bolas and rope trips. These are throwing weapons consisting of a length of rope weighted at either end. When thrown the rope will wrap around a target tripping it and imobilising it. Could be used for hunting, trapping and combating enemies without killing them. Use from horseback for extra fun. They could also be used to to stop an enemy so you can get in for an EVEN better kill LOL. It could even be magically charged to do elemental damage on a succesful strike. Sneak flame damage bolas kills anyone? In any case would be awesome fun.
- Polearms. All spears, halberds and Glaives have been missed for some bizarre reason. Even though they were by far and away the most common type of weapon through many parts of the medievil world. Some of these could be thrown aswell. Would be great for dismounting horse riding enemies aswell.
- Morning Star. The game has flanged maces but no spiked Morning Star. It seems it would have been easy to add one aswell. Not a biggie but i'd like to see one.
- Soft weapons. These are not "soft" in the traditional sence but articulated weapons with moving joints like one and two handed flails, nunchuks, and chained maces. They have been missed altogether.
- Stabbing and thrusting swords. All of the swords in Skyrim are used to cut and slash. It would be interesting trying to stab and thrust for oponents weak spots with thin Rapiers and Epee's in a 'fencing' style.
- Whips. Not only have they been weaponised in the past already, but they could have a dual use (like wood axes and pics) in controling and manipulating animals. The whip could potentially be used as a lassoo aswell to capture fleeing horses and enemies. I like the dual use tool/weapon idea. Potentially we could even drag tied up victims behind a horse to take them to jail or turn theieves and criminals in to the authorities alive.
- Gladiatorial style nets. Again these could be used one handed instead of a shield to subdue and capture fleeing oponents or temporarily impede enemies during combat. Could also be used to tangle and disarm enemy weapons perhaps forcing some enemies to yield.
- Horse specific weapons. Why not add a Jousting pole or polearm specifically for use when on horse back ? Imagine running head on into another mounted enemy in a brutal joust to the death? Or just simply galloping around the countryside skewering and impaling farmers. Would be an awesome addition.
- Tools: Scythes, sickles, hammers, forks, crop flails and walking canes could all feature as weapons with some acting as stealth weapons which would not attract attention due to their disguise as ordinary farm tools and household objects. Also, who wouldnt want to walk around in Necromancer robes carrying the Scythe with "soul trap" ? Grim reaper build anyone? Awesome.
- Staffs. And i dont mean magical wizard staffs. I mean blunt wooden combat staffs. These could make decent weapons able to strike AND trip oponents. Some of the perks could add defensive "Darth Maul" style martial arts spinning and movement techniques used to parry off enemy blows instead of a shield or simple straight block with the block button. That would be pretty cool.
UPDATE: - Traps. Skyrim already has enemy laid beartraps and tripwire activated boobytraps. But wouldnt it be cool if you could use these yourself AND set up your own woodland traps? Pungee pits, snares, nets, swinging logs, dropping cages etc etc. All could make for some really interesting gameplay. Especially since we can all follow NPC daily routines. Traps could also be left on roads and footpaths to help free enemy prisoners and ambush bandits. You could even trap unsuspecting victims then force them to pay to be released. Loads of possibilities !!! Trapping could even have its own skill tree.
NOTE: Many of my idea's here have revolved around less lethal weapons. Another interesting ability or gameplay mechanic would be the use of traps and i guess torture to interogate stubborn NPC's. Guy wont give you that key you need ? Tie him up and intimidate him. Chick wont tell you where that dungeon is located? Lassoo her and drag her behind a horse for a while. Shopkeeper overcharging you for a weapon? Trap him in a cage and dont let him out until he drops the price. Or even just hold people until they pay to be released. Just a thought. It would be more interesting than just killing everyone LOL. In any case once you had your information you could kill them anyway if thats your thing.
I will update if i think of more. So, any idea's you guys like in there ?
