multiple characters

doesnt this get dull? i've seen on this forum a few times that people create several characters. but some aspects - like the beginning dungeon, the dragons, the main questline - will be the same - how do you guys create the variety?

Its only dull if youre doing the same things every time. Each playstyle makes the game completely different, and with the world of Skyrim being so massive, you can simply just go off in a different direction than you did with your last character.

There's a small bit of roleplay involved as well to keep it fresh. For instance, if youre making an archer character, you should be putting every effort forward into being the best archer you can, and not falling back into the habits of other characters you may have.

For instance, if you just got through playing as a sword and board character, you dont want to put one handed and block on your archer. Some improvement is fine as a backup for close melee combat, but you dont want to go maxing out one handed and block on an archer character.

You should play with the mindset of the bow first, and melee only when neccessary. Doing this will completely change your gameplay experience. Some things are easier, some are tougher, and some are just maddeningly frustrating until you find the right approach to the situation.

By the same token, you'll want to enter into the guild that best suits the class youre going with. If youre a giant lumbering Nord packing a warhammer, you are probably out of place at the Mages College. If you've decided that your character disposition is that of the righteous, then you will probably want to eliminate the Dark Brotherhood rather than join them.

Its all about variation. Ive easily put over 300 hours into Skyrim, and I still get the urge to start a brand new character with a brand new skillset to play.

Yes, it gets boring going through the beginning again and again, but once I get past the beginning, everything is different for each character. How a character plays changes a lot of what I do in the early game. For example, a Warrior hits up the Nightgate Inn to pick up a Blades Sword, while a Stealth Assassin starts the Dark Brotherhood. Not only that, but the playstyle itself adds a lot of variety. Even approaching the same situation in different ways creates variety.

Pretty much exactly this. I create characters that are different in most aspects, because replaying the same thing, like you stated OP, would definitely get boring. But if you mix it up, hell no it ain't boring, lol. It's more fun and you experience the game a lot differently.

The variety is in the build. I'm familiar enough with the opening quests to get my favorite items to run through them in a couple hours, but the at least 3 different ways to go about them (Melee, Range/Sneak, and Magic) really makes them different challenges.

thats really helpful. do most of you start with multiple characters after you have played through once first?

Personally I've only finished the main quest once and that wasn't even on my first char. I do play just 1 char at a time though, I don't like mixing them all the time. I've got several reasons for that but yea, if I get bored with one (which often seems to happen at lvl 20-30ish) I might make a new one and not look back to the other for a long time.

I get bored of my characters on a weekly basis. lol.

lvl 20-30 mages (About 6, all of them altmer and one breton)
lvl15-20 Archers (3, two Kajiht and a wood elf

Several sword and shield couple of two handed, a necromancer and a merchant build. lol.

At the minute i'm really enjoying a nightblade, illusion is your friend people!

I like the idea of making different characters for different occasions, but at the minute my nightblade hasn't had any trouble with any of the quests, couple of people = throw down a conjuration, need to sneak hello X15 (x30 with DB gloves) back stab, I'm bored in this town.......(throws down Frenzy) BATTLE ROYAL!

Start out 1/1 to hp/mp and then once you have 250 Magika put the rest into HP (More magicka if you think ur gonna rely more on magic) I don' actually use stamina that much cause i just use vegetable soup....remember...your five a day is broken and good for you..
