I'm struggling to find anything scary in skyrim, I think you just need to grow up.

I can think of two reasons it is(or may be) scarier to you.

1) You have low health. Having low health makes it easy to die. Death is something we, as gamers, wish to avoid. This makes your playthrough inherently more scary than that of other players.
2) You sneak often, and/or have a low sneak skill. Sneaking makes it possible to be "Detected". Being detected when you're sneaking is bad(scary), and if you have low health, being detected can make it easier to die(scary). See #1(scary).

After you've played like this for a time, it feeds back on itself, and you tend to be on edge more when you play, making it so that you are more easily startled when something unexpected happens, like when a Falmer or Charus sneaks up behind you when you're about to shoot an arrow at an unsuspecting target on the other side of a bridge.

I find it's much less scary when I play with Heavy Armor, Smithing, and one dedicated melee weapon. One or two handed doesn't matter, but I prefer One Handed, so I can also use Block. This way, you're always pumping health, always have high armor, can take the elemental resistance perk for Block, and your primary attack is always increasing when you fight. Death is unlikely, and is even less likely if you bottleneck your opponents whenever possible. Enchanting your own weapon with Absorb Health takes this combo one step further(there's a reason AH is the most Valuable weapon enchantment).

Also, when you've got that kind of combo going, you're never worried about your opponents 'Detecting' you, so it's much harder to get startled.

I believe its fact that everyone has a fear. So before you make fun of others, think about what you would feel like if it were happening to you.
