Mages can forget about using followers unless said follower is strictly ranged.

Your coolest spells are AOE and while you dont take damage from your walls of fire/frost/shock, your companions stand in it like a WoW DPS noob who doesnt know the simple rule that if you didnt put it there, dont stand in it.

Fireball explodes, damaging companions.

Ice Storm is just a huge blastwave that hurts anyone in front of you for several seconds.

Wall spells leave massive areas of burning, freezing, or shocking magic wherever you spray it.

Chain lightning for whatever reason will chain to companions.

Non AOE projectiles do devastating damage to followers should they take an errant step.



The best use for a companion is to tell them to wait at the door, clear the dungeon alone and then put all the heavy crap on them so you can make it back to town.

I outfitted my Proudspire Housecarl with an enchanted Daedric Bow, and so far she does pretty well staying out of my way, the only drawback is that she becomes a bit of a killthief.

I disagree about the mage using them being bad. My high elf mage is running around with Mjoll (since i was magic, i needed some muscles lol) since level 8 and now she is level 22. Sometimes I do send her back to riften, but she's with me 86.5% of the time. On my first play thru, Lydia died within maybe 5 quest, so then i ran solo, esp after her dead body popped up at my wedding. Uncool. So Mjoll gets my vote 4 best, out of the two i've used.

Mjoll helps since she's marked essential till you finish all her quests, leave it open, use her as a follower and your sweet

Followers suck. As firestorm79 said, their level is set when you first encounter them, so they're only useful for a few levels before becoming obsolete. Because of this, it's much easier to simply work without them.

Also, the majority of the Followers are the Rambo type, charging into battle at the first sign of trouble. The only followers that have Stealth as a major skill are Jenassa and the Dark Brotherhood Initiates that show up at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline.

Probably either Raul or Veronica. Both are developed really well and I actually felt a connection to those characters. Not to mention they're really useful.

I've found Lydia useful while learning the game. All i want to do is explore new places (even when on a quest) and by the time i've noticed we've been attacked, Lydia has killed them. Maybe when i learn to play, i'll notice how effective she is

i'v had lydia the dog that's clavicus vile's pet and Illia who is a mage, she was great but i couldnt marry her no matter what i did so i parted ways with her, as once she goes u cant find her again apparently, i didnt want the burdon of keeping her with me 24/7

i'll admit companions get in the way abit, but when ur deep in some draugr catacombs and u all of a sudden get ambushed by high level draugr i could thank the heavens i had backup, i just try lure enemies away from the followers then dispatch them quick, and if i can't lure them, i let my companion do their thing

Followers are really useful for carrying shit. But then .. Lydia died and I have no clue where I left her ;~; I'm playing on the 360 so I can't use any console commands or anything to find her, unfortunately. Since I lost all my loot on her (WHERE ARE YOU!?) I've been hesitant to pick out another follower lol >.<
