My reasoning is simple, Magic was done a little poorly compared to the rest of the combat skills.

Warlocks/Wizards/Mages etc...have all been widely known to be capable of sick, massive damage at the cost of being very easy to kill. In Skyrim, you just do moderate damage and are still damned easy to kill, and on top of that they throw in the fact that your offense is limited by your mana pool.


For example.

My master mage is only capable of 90 points of damage per projectile. It can be boosted a little if I dual cast, but its not enough of a boost to justify the bigger mana drain.

So here we are. 90 points per shot, which at high levels is like little powder puffs to these enemies that bullrush and cut you down. The master spells do a little more damage, but require you to remain perfectly still, and can be interrupted if struck during the cast time.



Now, my "Pretty Good" sword skills (88) combined with Blacksmithing and some perks have me doing 153 damage with a sharpened GLASS sword. Not enchanted or anything, just a sharpened Glass sword, and its not even the best caliber sword you can get. I have unlimited swings of this, as normal strikes cost no stamina.

In short, as a warrior I have limitless attacks that do more damage in their base form than my best master destruction spell. Oh, not to mention that should I cast said spell it would drain the entire mana pool for only a small ding in the enemy's lifebar.



The problem with magic lies in the fact that there is no way to boost your magical damage past taking the perks for +50% to get it to where it is now.


Melee fighters can boost their damage 100% through perks, and then around 300% through blacksmithing. Thats on an UNENCHANTED weapon, mind you. Throw extra damage on there from fire/frost/shock.....forget about it. Why even play as a wizard?


Bows are similarly used. +100% through perks, add in blacksmithing and enchanting, and take into account the long range sneak attacks for X2 or X3 damage, and right there you have all the reason in the world do be a bowman instead of a mage.


Limitless casting is pretty much required at higher levels if youre playing anything above adept. Otherwise, have fun hitting your enemies with cherry blossoms as they rush in and gut you while youre running for your life waiting on your mana to come back.
