Not working crafting is a great way to balance the game, and keep your level from advancing too quickly. I'd even leave it off for selling, because the profit is pretty useless anyway, when you're already running 2 of the most lucrative questlines in the game (DBH, and TG.) Get the Stones/Crown of B, and you should be set. Also, having to find/buy your own potions/poisons means not having that safety net where you can just pop into the menu, and heal back up to fresh as a daisy. Whell, you still can, but not every fight without running out.

The build as outlined looks solid, and versatile. You can shoot, backstab, or turtle a little (not too much, you're not a Tank) and probably have some mobility. What race did you build it on?

[edit]Rather than double post, I'll just say that Bash&Burn spellshield is fun, and unique. Long battles, but not generally in much danger of getting killed with good tactics. Just don't Tank, and use the shield to keep them off balance as much as for extra armor, elemental protection, and arrow deflection. Once you're up to Block Runner, your mobility goes way up, and Shield Charge is always fun. The Shield of Ysgramor is ginormous, so it blocks a lot of arrows, and bumps your Magic Resistance up to 70% with the Perk. I didn't bother with Ward Absorb, nor the Spellbreaker, so it's that, or Targe of the Blooded for even more DoT. I'm up to Flame Roading now, but rather than kiting the enemy onto it, I just lay down a good landing strip, and let them come to me. Unless there's a bottleneck, then I just block the doorway, and fill it with damage so all I have to do is play goaly. (Do Not get Intense Flames!) I've also peeled down to robes, Thalmor boots/gloves, and Nahkriin, but just those two pieces of armor are plenty (with the SoY) with a good pad of Health. The mask is mostly to keep casting costs down. 3 skills, Block, Destruction, and Heavy Armor. I splashed in some Illusion (Altmer, for running speed, I spammed Courage on followers) up to Aspect of Terror to augment fire damage too.

I'm currently playing as a witchhunter, a brilliant way to play, you use a bow as your main weapon, conjure an atronach at the start of battles and use restoration to heal yourself, its a mix between an archer and a mage.

I have a female Orc witchhunter with Archery, Alchemy and Conjuration Magic with Light armour and One handed with Dual Wielding perks. I have a tank follower and summon Dremora Lord when fighting and am currently level 30.

I never smith stuff either its a while effort to get all the stuff to do it whereas you could just get it in a dungeon probably.

The Naked Commander:
No equipment during combat(including Carry Weight, and defensive regeneration-only items)
No spells during combat(including scrolls).
No attacking during combat.
No Conjuration before combat(No pets during combat).
No Blocking during combat.
No Dragon Shouts during combat(this includes all shouts, except when necessary for storyline progression).
No Sneaking.
No Potions/Poisons.
No Invisibility.
No Healing during combat.
No Alteration to boost followers stats just prior to combat.
You may dump all of your points into Health, every level, if you wish(this is recommended).
You may have followers(This is the point).
You may equip your followers(Smithing and Enchanting are encouraged).
You may plant items on followers who have no trade option(Edit: Sneak is allowed for this).
You may use equipment to increase skills(Smithing, Enchanting, Alchemy), stat regeneration, or Carry Weight, as long as you unequip all items at the outset of combat(yes, I realize this means you may be encumbered during combat if you carry too much crap around with you).
You may use Alchemy to poison your followers' weapons while out of combat.

One special exception: You may cast Soul Trap during combat, or use a staff to Soul Trap(since Soul Trap might as well be part of Enchanting). I suppose you could buy all your souls, but this can get expensive, and time consuming, especially since you're already going to be spending money on Smithing.

The whole point of this is to only ever use your followers to engage combat, while basically being a complete pacifist(or coward, if you wish) during combat. You should never have any direct involvement in any fighting(to include giving your allies any tactical advantage by using yourself as a meat shield). Exceptions are allowed only for quest progression requirements, and Soul Trap, as previously mentioned.

The no sneaking or invisibility requirement is just there to force you to engage combat whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I just thought of this today, but have yet to try it. Not completely sure it would be fun, but it's certainly unique!

Just a thought: Would enchanting your follower's weapon with Soul Trap, and then trading Soul Gems to them cause them to trap souls just as the player does?(or would the soul go into the player's inventory?)

Just a comment - I soul-trapped an enemy but my Atronach made the kill - and I still got the soul-gem.

I recently made a necromancer-type character, who I call a puppeteer. Basically, I use the standard necromancer robes and a pair of boots for my clothing/armor, and all my resources go into maximizing the ability to raise the dead, while casting defensive Alteration spells. He - an Altmer, considering their significant magicka boost - also has a little knowledge in Restoration magic - basic wards and healing - so he won't die easily, and wields a dagger.

The main reason I call him a puppeteer, though, is his heavy use of the Ritual Stone to raise massive armies of undead and command them to fight his battles. This works best after assaulting a fort during the Civil War questline, as there are numerous bodies strewn about and the AOE of the Ritual Stone is quite large.

Imagine, if you will, the eight or ten guys that battle the city guards (or Stormcloaks) during the Battle for Whiterun. Now, imagine having an army of twelve to fifteen undead - draugr, Imperial soldiers, city guards, giants, mages, archers (oh my!) - battling alongside you, as well. It makes some of the more anti-climactic battles of the game much more exciting.

The same goes for dungeons. Just bring five or six undead with you and wreck s**t.

I like to take a little inspiration from Tyrannicon. You can use this army of yours (which only increases in size as you slay more and more people) to assault cities, such as Markarth or Windhelm. Hell, it's even fun to bring them into the College and let them duke it out with the mages...
