I had this same glitch. And I also lost any auto-save that will do me any good (that's what I get for trying to go back outside). I sure hope this gets patched because I'm not going back to 2-hours just to finish this thing.

You have to get à follower then tell him to go home just before entering the. Chapel it bug because ure not supposes to bring someone and lost partners count so get à new one and leave him before entering thé temple (you should have à message telling you that your follower left you)

This also happened to me, so I just went back to last save point (I'm on xbox version) and followed him in, the last time when it happened he went in at the exact same time. So this time I let him go in first, then I followed right after, I didn't stand around or go do another mission. Then he appeared. Keep in mind, if he doesn't appear, then you're screwed because he has two important rolls in this quest.

This last tip actually worked for me on Xbox, but on the fifth try or so. Extremely annoying quest (slowest priest in the universe), which is a shame cuz the story is excellent.

Hi I've got a totally different problem I can get through the first room then I follow him down some stairs kill 2 orcs and then I'm meant to follow him to the library but he won't go up the stairs I've tried all sorts I've even attacked him forced him up the stairs to the door and he just stands there and doesn't do anything I'm on Xbox has anyone else has this problem?

On the 360 I couldn't find anything that worked, including reload suggestions etc... in frustration I tried the Unrelenting Force Shout, from beneath him on the stairs. It knocked him all the way to the top, he yelled at me, but it pushed him through the glitch.
