Filling Soul Gems - Page 3

I walk around with a bound sword, capturing souls at will. Every kill I get gives me a soul, and if the wrong soul is in the wrong gem, release it.. I never had problems, but then again I only use gems to refuel my wabbajack.

i have about 5 weapons that if you kill something with it it fills a soul gem

I always tend to enchant soul trap for one second so i get alot of uses from the weapon itself. Soul Siphon can help too. I also have way too many soul gems.

I sell them all for a grand soul gem

is it where you bring an item ie - braclets that give you a 25% better chance of picking locks and put it on the enchanting table, the braclets get destroyed while the 25% lock picking is in your head. You can then put that lock picking on a pair of boots or something

TripleDX - You'll also want to put points into the base skill, because with 5 points in it, enchantments are doubly strong. The highest tier Enchanting skill, which requires Enchanting 100, is needed to enchant an item with two abilities at once.

Disenchanting works with ANY level of power for a given enchanting (IE: Disenchanting something with Fortify Smithing 15% nets you the same ability as if you disenchanted fortify smithing 40%). So it's best to use lowest tier stuff for disenchanting. IE: Don't waste Expert or Master level robes for disenchanting, as they're high end, and novice robes work just as well.

BTW: The most valuable Enchantment is Banish (Banish Daedra). Muffle and Sneak are also good choices (and both are Armor type enchantments, as opposed to Weapon type like Banish).

Certain types items can only have certain enchantments. Like, You can't can only put Fortify *MagicSchool* + Magic Regen enchantment on upper body/Robe type equipment.

BTW: Personally, I don't recommend bothering with those special dual-purpose enchantments. Each aspect is much weaker than having either quality separate. On the other hand, dual Enchanting (the 100 Enchanting skill) doesn't suffer the same problem with Equipment (but weapons do, because they rely on charges, and each skill requires its own charges).

Raising your Alchemy is also a good idea if you want to enchant to the highest level possible. For example, you can reduce destruction costs by about 25% with Enchanting level 100, but with a powerful Fortify Enchanting potion, you can boost that to 45% (possibly higher). So yeah, Alchemy and Enchanting are symbiotic, really. Enchanting can allow you to make powerful Alchemy gear, and a high alchemy skill can make powerful Enchantment potions. HOWEVER, Alchemy equipment bonuses don't apply to Enchantment potions, because it could allow you to make increasingly powerful gear and potions. But otherwise, the boosts are significant.

EDIT: Forgot to mention earlier, but I want to bring to people's attention (if they don't know already), but the Soul Cairn in Dawnguard is EXCELLENT for finding soul gems, and occasionally finding ones already filled. Depends on your level I'm sure, but I found a fair few Black soul gems, Grand, Greater, and other soul gems (some already filled). And I mean a metric shit-ton of them. I found so many Greater and Grand soul Gems, I haven't needed to buy any for a while. I found something like at total of a dozen black soul gems too.

After you get far enough into the main story grands start popping up all over creation too. Get empty ones then go fight some giants and mammoths, I think are both grand souls.

Giants fill greater soul gems iirc.
