Flaw with the game?

I noticed that when you manually do the battles, it's a whole hell of a lot easier to win than if you have the AI auto calculate the battles... like at the very beginning, when you have your little army, when i manually attack a small city i can defeat them without losing a man, but when i tried to auto calculate it (because battles take too long, i'd rather focus on the other stuff) i often lose as much as half of my army against a much smaller force. what is with that?

As you progress further into the campaign, your enemies get stronger and better-trained, which leads to more of your soldiers getting killed.

It relies strongly on your leader's command rating too. If he's only got a few stars then he'll lose quite a few men, whereas a general with a good command rating will actually bother to manoeuvre your troops properly and will likely achieve a more similar result to a manual battle.

i guess i didn't word it very well. i meant, the very first battle in the game (with manual combat turned on) i can win without losing a single man. but when i try that exact same battle (using autocalculate) i lose a ridiculously large number of men...

re: Flaw with the game?

Well that's because a general on autopilot with only a few stars will just send a load of uncooperative men to their deaths, with more stars they use tactics and their men are far more cooperative, infact, a general with 10 stars can be even better at battling than you the player, but getting the 10 stars is always difficult.

Myself, I play as Brutii, concentrate on building a nice solid cashflow and autorun every battle, I haven't lost one, but I did retreat once to avoid a loss, I should be called "Sky the invincible"

re: Flaw with the game?

oh, that makes sense then. that's cool thanks for telling me. it's fun to manually do the battles at first, but later in the game when you are involved in several battles per turn, it takes forever
