Forum Synergy

So this is going to be a little bit of a history lesson that meanders its way into an advertising campaign for the General KOEI Warriors Forum.

When I started using Neoseeker, the Dynasty Warriors community was one of the largest on the site. I remember periodically checking the "Top Forums" section under PS2 (hadn't yet learned that you could check Stats) and I remember that Dynasty Warriors 3 would always trade places, back and forth, with GTA. In any case, ever since that time, there had always been a huge push by the community for a General KOEI Warriors Forum.

The complaint against it was that the community was nomadic, moving from one main title forum to the next. But I think the advent of Samurai Warriors really changed that, splitting the community a little.

We got our wish a few years back after goldensteelix pestered Redemption into making the forum. The argument was that the main title forums would be the center of the community during release and pre-release and then we could shift back over to the General KOEI Warriors Forum once the hype started to simmer. And for the most part, that's how it went down with DW6.

Han Ning did a great job keeping activity up in the DW6, but as people discovered their hatred for clones and no musou modes, interest in the game actually started to die down, and we all sort of settled into the General KOEI Warriors Forum where the Bacchanalia of KOEI Warriors themed Forum games ensued and carried discussion and activity for quite a while.

My job, and whoever gets this job after me, is to try to balance the two forums, so that the General KOEI Warriors Forum is sustained between the hype of Dynasty Warriors 7 all the way to the hype of Dynasty Warriors 8 or Samurai Warriors 4.

That being said, the General KOEI Warriors Forum needs a bit of a kick start and the following post will give you some reasons to go over there and keep it a bit alive until its time to move back over there.

You can definitely count me in to try and help. I think the reason I tend to stay away from a lot of these threads is because my lack of knowledge of the era, but I've decided I will take this opportunity to learn something. I'll try and think of ways to help out too.

Yeah but still, since the NPCs in this game usually don't have a lot of backstory I think it would be best to do some reading. Only problem is that my source is going to be Wikipedia, so hopefully the articles will be accurate enough.

Oh yeah. I think I've heard of KongMing before, but I thought it was just a forum site or something. Thanks. I'll check that out from now on.

What's great about wikipedia is that you can start on Gan Ning and be reading and clicking links and end up at Du Yu. Then if you want to know about Du Yu specifically, you can hop on over to kongming.

Haha that usually ends up happening to me except with the empresses/wives of the time. Women are so much more interesting...

So will the individuals get a sort of achievement to go along with the trophy they earn for their kingdom?

So just tossing this out there. Would any one be interested in 20Qs, Swords and Siege Weapons, or Ma Dai the Assassin? If there is enough support for 20Qs, we can do it, but someone else is going to have to run it. I'll get a migrane....

If all of those seem like too much work, I really wouldn't mind creating a new hurt/heal or voting type poll/game like CHENGPU that sparks discussion as well as that did.

I have no idea how I expect people to respond to this, but I'm basically looking to see how many people still want to talk about China.

Here's a link to the first Swords and Siege Weapons. I think we had 7-8 separate games and they got pretty in depth.

In essence, it's a Hurt/Heal RP. Each warrior had HP, Defense, Attack, and Speed stats. The speed stat was in units of hours and every time your turn came back you could either attack, move, defend, or use special attacks. It was a strategy game in which each side was trying to accomplish a different goal. Either kill the enemy leader, take the enemy main camp, etc....

Then there were of course things like open the flood gates, cause avalanches etc... and you did that by moving to a certain location and breaking something.

It was a neat little game and surprisingly easier to manage than 20Qs. If we did it again, though, I'd want to make sure it had some discussion value.
