Did we mention how releasing Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition in packaged retail format seriously paid off despite already tearing up Xbox Live Arcade charts? Oh, we did. Well, the move certainly hasn't gotten any less inspired since the disc version first launched back in June. In fact, it's been the number one title in the U.K. for three weeks in a row.
According to Chart-Track, that represents the finest run yet for any Xbox 360 title since Forza Motorsport 2 and that was back in 2007. Not bad for a title that started life as a digital download, but Minecraft was already a winner on XBLA. The XBLA version hit a milestone of 6 million downloads back in late March, and with the current retail sales that number has now hit a stellar 8 million units sold on Microsoft's platform alone!
Meanwhile Namco Bandai's Tales of Xillia was the only newcomer on Chart-Track's software top ten last week, but it made a fine accounting of itself by landing in fourth place ahead of fan favorites Animal Crossing: New Leaf and The Last of Us. And you were worried about JRPGs being too niche for any market outside of Japan.
