Just got the game today. It's fun, not gonna lie. Quick question though: when do all the monsters that are outside my door die? As soon as the sun rises, or should I wipe them out with my sword?

They die when the sun comes up.(Actually they only burn at a certain light level)Creepers, spiders and enderman don't though, and spiders turn hostile during the day.

Also, what platform?
Pc or Xbox360?

Endermen aren't on the 360 version. Poor ims2golfer keeps getting confused.

Did you attack the spider first? Once the sun's out, they should just move around aimlessly, unless you attack them.

Nope. Got out of that tutorial house, walked around a bit, then the spider attacked me. I got scared when I suddenly lost health and somehow switched my view to 3rd person.

If it was chasing you already before it beame day then it will stay hostile for a few minutes, if you wait about 1 minute before leaving your house there shouldnt be any spiders attacking you.

Spiders will chase you in the day time if you just simply get too close. They take it as a threat, so they attack you.

Also, if you ever find a wolf, DON'T KILL IT. It will become your best friend if you feed it a bone, which you can find from killing skeletons.

So do any of you have mines that are so long and winding, that you get lost in them? Mine is ridiculous. -_-
