Ornstein and Smough boss battle tactics help!!!!!!! - Page 2

That sounds about right Lorx, there have been times when Quelana has appeared for me even when I haven't had a +10 Pyromancy Flame, but I have had an unupgraded one in my inventory. I can't remember what I had done exactly, I just remember her being there and thinking it was odd that she was there.


To the topic at hand; I always go after Smough first unless I want his soul. I used to think it was easier killing Ornstein first and then dealing with Smough, but when you start looking at the movesets of each in their powered up form, Ornstein really doesn't have many attacks that can reach you if you remain in close proximity. Saying that, if you don't mind using a bow to finish the boss fight, then Smough would be easier, as his more dangerous attacks are when you are at close range, staying behind a pillar while firing away with the Red Tearstone Ring activated is one method I've seen people use.

In demon's souls there used to be this particular kind of host (mostly encountered in 4-1), he summoned 2 helper phantoms (blue in that game), and then he would wait for invasions. He didn't ganked but instead made a survival kind of game, he would send each of his helper phantoms, 1 at a time in honorable duels and he would even let you heal and recast buffs as needed. If you managed to best both his lads, he would challenge you at the end....... It was beautiful, one of the most envigorating and respectful experiences I've had in online games. As such in Demon's you always bowed against gankers, because every now and then you would encounter this sort of guy.

Of course that's nowhere to be found in Dark souls, if you find the host and his group of phantoms you can be sure he'll gangbang you. At first I still bowed to them, expecting some of that Demon's souls fairplay would have endured, but of course soon I learned that wasn't the case..... and now a days I never bow to groups anymore, I immediately charge and aim for the kill.

The nearest experience I've had to a honorable 1 vs 2 duel was a guy in the forrest, he sent his sunbro to kill me bowed and retreated to watch the fight from afar. It seemed pretty legit at first, his sunbro was pretty powerful so he killed me twice but in the third duel I had him by the balls, and the minute the host realized I was going to win he one-shotted me with crystal soul spear. So much for getting my hopes up I suppose.

The bottomline is, if you're against more than 1 char you have permission to act as douchy as you like. Same as when you´re a lone host, someone invades you and he immediately runs to take cover behind PVE enemies. At that moment it stops being honorable and degrades to a bar fight.

Lets try and keep the discussion on topic guys, as useful as the information being discussed is, it's not really relevant to the topic of this thread.

These guys all seem like experts, so I'll give you advice from a noob standpoint. I got killed like 40 times by them before I found this method. Firstly, kill Ornstein. I think you know how to do that. When Smough turns Super Saiyan, quickly try to run behind a broken pillar, with smough facing you. Now, smough should be stuck on the pillar and be trying to walk around it while still stuck. Just keep running left and right so he's always directly in front of you. He shouldnt ever do the buttslam, and his running swing attack wont hit you if you keep a moderate distance fom him. Now, if you have firebombs or soul arrows than use them, if you only have melee than it's a little more complicated. When he does his 2 handed attack where he slams his hammer down, do a running R1 attack on him and then immediately retreat back behind the pillar. If you do it right than he should jump back, and then return to being stuck on the pillar. Dont ever get greedy doing this though. If you dont attack him the second he finished his attack, than just wait for him to do it again. If you wait too long to attack than he'll buttslam you. I hope this helped, these *bleep*ers were owning me before I did this method.

Are you mainly having trouble with Ornstein and Smough, or just Smough by himself? If you can kill Ornstein and have atleast 2 flasks left, than the method I posted above should work.

This is the smough method btw. Just do what this guy did and you should be fine.

Well thats your own fault then. Just know when to heal and don't take any chances with this fight. Patience is the most important thing when fighting them.

I agree with this sentiment. When I invade, I'm invading to get humanity. End of story. Usually, there are two-three players that I'm fighting and I have to do a lot of tricks to beat them or get them to beat themselves (like making them fall off a cliff whatever).

If you're in the Kiln that gives me the impression that you are camping like the people in the forest do. And if the guy beat you, lag or no, then he must have been better than you (unless he was super high level - in which case, yeah who cares if a 400 SL beats two 80 SL).

Everyone has lag at some point and it's annoying and frustrating. Especially when you know it's THEIR connection. It doesn't mean their assholes for backstabbing. Honestly, I used to HATE backstabs with a passion. What I did is I learned how to do them. Once you learn how to do them, you learn how to avoid them. Seriously, it helps a lot. Practice it.

I don't expect everyone to like invading or to like being invaded. But you have to understand it's part of the game. That's why there are different covenants for different play styles. If you like co-oping, become a Sunbro and always have a bud with you to kill any invaders. If you like invading, become a Darkwraith. If you like punishing sinners, become a Darkmooner (who think they're so holy and righteous).

All that being said, if I'm invading someone I expect to be gang banged. There is no honor in invading UNLESS it's in the kiln where you expect duels (and a couple other places where duels are common). And likewise, if I get invaded when I'm playing through a level I will attack the black phantom with my two white phantoms. That's just the way it is. So say we all.

what you guys say is all fine and dandy but in reality the invader has EVERY enemy on the board on their side as a distraction so there is no ganking in this game. Ganking to me is a whiny thing people say when they want to invade your game, ruin your experience and then whine you killed them because you had a phantom with you. If the invader has a levels worth of npc help then why is it bad to have one of your freinds with you while you play. No one invited the invader to my game, I personally hate pvp in this game due to the horrendous P2P lag.
NOW if you are invading in the forest and there are 3 phantoms waiting on top of the stairs who bash you before you finish loading thats gangking. Ive tried to practice PVP in the forest but no one wants to do one on one.
