Let's get one of these going.

So for Darkhawk42, Lady_Sparda, Daisy, Sphinx, BigBalla118, Fyrestorm, what have you all been up to recently? The DMC3 forum seems like so long ago and so much has changed for me in that time, anyone remember that RP that we never finished?

And for everyone, what do we all think of DmC based on the information so far? I can't say that the reboot has immediately struck me as being amazing, however for me gameplay is by far the most important thing, so I'm not writing it off at this incredibly early stage. And with all DmC games, information will probably come at a snail's pace haha.

Hi Deathman! I've actually been fairly busy the last few years. After working in retail management for 3 years after graduating from uni I finally got a new job this year as a sub-editor at a financial magazine in London. It's pretty cool, as it's a relatively small independently published title, so I get to do a lot of design work too, and have also been involved in a bit of the marketing stuff recently.

As far as DmC, and gaming in general, not a lot has really grabbed my attention of late. Last couple of really great games I've played were God of War 3 and Red Dead Redemption (if you discount the ridiculously addictive Sims 3), and the only thing I'm really looking forward to at the moment is Uncharted 3.

Not sure what I think about the new look Dante either to be honest, but that said, I didn't really like DMC4's version of Dante. As much as Nero was a bit whiny sometimes, I generally found him a more interesting character (partly because of all the unanswered questions about his arm, devil trigger etc.), and also a much more enjoyable character to play. In that respect I'm not sure that I'm overly fussed about the Dante redesign, it might refresh the game a bit. Quite why we need another prequel though after DMC3 I'm not sure though...

I wasn't around Neoseeker when DMC3 was at it's peak (i was probably off discussing Tenchu or something), but i hope you guys'll make me welcome here?

I'm less of a gameplay-mechanic-fanatic and more of a storyline kinda guy. I'm really interested to see how the story of a younger Dante works out, what with his devil side effecting his hair colour (regardless of my dislike for his new character model). Still unsure if this is a total reboot or a sort of prequel to DMC3, but will we see the split of Vergil and Dante? DMC's story has been a bit patchy and unfocused of late and i'm just curious as to how it'll all tie together.

As far as my opinion on DMC4 is concerned, i feel the same as Sphinx (GOW3 and Red Dead Redepmtion were also recent hightlights for me aswell! With Uncharted 3 being top of my most wanted list!). I felt DMC4 would have been better as a spin-off to the main 'Dante' DMC games, without Dante and focusing on Nero's story, and the new setting of Fortuna. Instead it seemed to capitalise on Dante, even using near enough the exact same movesets copy-pasted from DMC3. I found it a massive disappointment.

I'm hoping for quite a large gameplay difference in dMc though- some new weapons (perhaps a hammer?) to bring fresh gameplay so that it doesn't feel like we are back on Mallet Island killing marionettes again!

Reboot/prequel, I don't even know anymore. If it is a reboot though I think it begs the question - did the series even need a reboot? If Wikipedia is to be believed, then DMC4 sold more copies than any of the previous titles (obviously being multi-platform helped in that respect, but its still worth noting). Why coming of the back of the best-selling game of the series and the introduction of an interesting new character (who I think could quite easily have stepped into Dante's shoes and replaced him completely in subsequent titles), did they think the series needing rebooting? Especially with such a strikingly different aesthetic style. I just kinda question Capcom's judgement there.

I agree with what you said about DMC4 - it displayed just the same sort of laziness that Capcom showed in DMC2 with regard to the missions. In the same way that Dante/Nero's missions were essentially the same, so were Dante/Lucia's. Though fortunately the rest of DMC4 was relatively sound compared to the pretty poor DMC2.

Oh, and Dantess, anyone with a Gogandantess avatar is welcome in my book - Onimusha 2 was one of my favourite PS2 games, and easily the best of the Onimusha series (didn't especially like the Dawn of Dreams reboot of that game either).

There's usually some form of that though, in DMC1 you had to fight bosses 3 times and in DMC3 you had to fight them all again in Level 19. Dante was pretty well done in DMC4 in terms of gameplay though for me, they seemed to tone Royal Guard down (in terms of strength) but seamlessly swapping styles on the fly gave for ridiculous combo possibilities, even more than the combolicious DMC3.

Trickster was nice, but Royal Guard was where the real reward was for me, being able to block attacks in a game where so many enemies could do the same to you was an invaluable tool, also vital for S Ranking DMD missions. The time constraints on some levels were crazy and the only way to down bosses in a relatively quick time was to do a full Just Release and take off about a third of their health.

Still, not that I have time for gaming much at the moment, but this game isn't even close to being on the horizon yet, so there's a long way to go.

I spent SO long practising Royal Guard in DMC3 (I certainly wouldn't have time for that now) and it was very painstaking (or pain-taking) because the only way to find out when to block is to find out where to hit. It's so risky on DMD mode because you take so much damage for a slightly mistimed block, I did eventually manage to do the 4 major boss fights on DMD in a single go without taking any damage but it took forever. It was kazak's videos of him beating Agni & Rudra, Beowolf, Gigapede and (I think) Vergil that made me realise how powerful the style was, and saved attacking the boss for 45 hours taking off 3 pixels of health per hit haha.

In DMC4 I didn't really invest that much time in it because of the changed circumstances I had compared to 2 years prior to that.

I never progressed beyond about mission 5 on DMC3 DMD. I just found it ridiculously obnoxiously difficult. Since then I've done a few other games on the hardest levels (most of the recent Call of Duty games, God of War series and DMC4), and while most of those were difficult, I don't think anything came close to DMC3 in controller-smashing frustration.

Sounds good, there seems to be a lot of remastered games getting released at the moment, kicked off with God of War, now they're doing Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, and now DMC. As long as they price it appropriately (I don't really want to spend another £45 for games I already own, at a total cost of around £100 in the first place), I'll definitely be getting it - mainly for DMC1.
