DmC?

Something people seem to overlook is a growing patch of white hair on the back of his head, and by the later ends of the trailer it's nearly the entire back half of his head.

Other than that it shows some promise in the combat aspect. Looks like they gave him something like Sparda in that it changes depending on how he uses it.

Ten-ish (or however long ago it was when DMC1 came out) years of free advertising would be the main reason.

Not really; in inFamous 2 they changed his personality too much. He'd turned into more of a Nathan Drake. Here we have only a two minute trailer which he's either fighting or chained up on personality which is pretty much no clue at all and nothing on gameplay, which matter a lot more than how he looks.

If you want to know why Ninja Theory changed his looks so much though, that would be because Inafune paid them a lot of money to as a part of his "Let's Westernise Capcom" campaign. Hernandez just has no idea what is cool to fans of the series since he was told not to bother with them and focus on getting a new market.

Cole didn't even have a personality in 1, his defining character trait was electricity and a yellow jacket. He was a blank slate.

He cracked jokes at the start with the fat friend and their plans for Cashola then when he learnt about his powers more and got screwed over by the government he became a reluctant hero/anti-hero (the villain side wasn't done well in this respect, though) who soon became a broken hero when everyone he knew either turned on him or died. His reactions to what was happening around him were actually reasonable and he seemed to be Human. I'd take that over another mass-murdering, joke-cracking, ass-smacking Nathan Drake wannabe that saturate gaming these days, especially since the change came after the aforementioned deaths/betrayals.

Well it would help prove it, in terms of DmC I agree with you. I dislike the new look, sure, but at the end of the day his personality and the gameplay are way more important, especially the latter.

And yes, a lot of things about Cole were vague and that was good. It left room for interpretation; I miss the days when characters had an air of mystery about them and when you couldn't figure them out fully after only five minutes of knowing them. The main thing about inFamous, though, was that Suckerpunch did something stupid in having the karma metre so if they gave him a big, outspoken personality it would screw either the good or evil options over. Scrap that aspect of the game and give him a more solid personality, that's fine, but making him a wise-cracking clone of existing protagonists is a cop-out move.

Aside from Spiderman and a few X-men (and Frodo, not technically a superhero but god he really took the biscuit and then some), I don't actually see that much. I reckon complete wuss is way too far for Cole though, I mean when he wasn't angsting about the people in his life or begrudgingly getting sludged in the kisser he did make a fair few comments as if enjoying himself... mostly whilst fighting that sludgy bitch but even still.

Yup, I'd say I agree.

Exactly. The simple fact is most people are screaming for Dante who loves pizza and makes jokes every five seconds and loves parties getting cuh-razy and that Dante has only existed in two games. I think I've said it before but if someone thinks the series is dead because the main character might not be as over-the-top as they know him as, even though in the original he was much more tame and in number two he was a complete emo, then said person needs to rethink their outlook on it.

The hair and the fact he's completely skinny does kill the look for me though, I mean how can someone who has that much of a workout everytime he has a fight, which is all the time, still look like a twig? And the hair's just stupid imo (wild, uneven fringe be damned). And the hair being his hair is way too self-indulgent, along with the flag on his jacket. But for most people his looks are the only reason they hate it, which is ridiculous. I wouldd say the Cowboy look was quite manly though but in a possibly homosexual steel worker kind of way. It's also ironic considering Capcom told NT to westernise him yet the Cowboy look was about as Western as Japanese game protagonists got with possible exceptions of RE (MGS doesn't count for one reason; the ass... dear lord the ass ).

But yeah, I think we've established we agree on the general point

I just hope more people calm down from the initial annoyance and wait until there's some gameplay or at least more than a two minute trailer and some screens before writing it off completely
