At the same time I do agree with you in the gray area idea. A combination of the two best fits our present situation.

This isn't about not listening, it's about voicing an opinion. You can't state an opinion in a thread and just expect everyone to go "Oh yes, you're absolutely right!"... that isn't the point of a thread designed for debate. This is why I tire of religion being thrown into discussion, because once discussion starts to counter certain beliefs, religious fanatics storm off in a strop.

I may be Atheist but I'm not arrogant toward Religion. I don't see why just because I don't believe in your God I should condemn you and call you an idiot. I personally find Religion hypocritical above all else, but if that faith is how you'd like to live your life, who am I to tell you your wrong? All I'm saying is there are alternatives to the Creation Story, scientific alternatives. Christians and other Religious people seem to hear the word Science and scream God til their lungs bleed. Isn't Religion meant to mean you're more open minded? Or is it just another way of being a "Science Atheist"? If you're not willing to listen to other theories that don't agree with your own personal belief, the conversation would do well without your input, frankly.

Evolution is a process that takes millions of years. We, as humans, are cursed to only live few decades at best, and as such evolution is incomprehensible in relation to time. The usual misconception is that it happened almost instantaneously and that there should be apes giving birth to humans and vice versa. Fact is, that's wrong. The theory of evolution states we share a common ancestor with apes. This doesn't mean at one point we were apes. Sure, if you would go into the past with the knowledge of the now and look at a human within that stage of evolution, it would look pretty much like an ape, fact remains that we weren't apes at all, technically speaking.

As stated. Salt is used in the natural cycle of a plant via Osmosis. It takes is water and nutrients from it's roots and uses it as food. I'm no sure on the technicalities of this since my knowledge is only limited to GCSE level Biology, but it's easy enough to apply that knowledge to an extent as to answer this question. Salt is also farmed by us for more than you'd care to imagine, consumables being the most common.

EDIT: I misconcieved the latter part of the question. Evolution is all about adaptation. The body won't ungo 'mutation' instantly. Like I said, it's a gradual process over million of years. As such the body would store the necessary mutation without the Gamete's DNA structure to that the offspring would be more adept within living in it's environment. IE Living in the desert may require more sweat glands. It wouldn't happen within the time of a few generations, it'd only become noticeable maybe a few thousand years after that initial mutated DNA. Phi is doing genetics though so she is in a getter position to answer this than I.

Fact is, Reproduction is essential to the evolutionary process.

No, why would it? The temperature and the climate wouldn't cause the Earth to implode or destroy itself, only the lifeforms within it. With that logic in mind planets such as Mars and Jupiter shouldn't exist. Fact is, Global Warming is a natural process the Earth goes through every few million years, followed by an Ice Age. We just sped it up a little with out use of Carbon based energy sources.

It's hard to say. Before the theory the question to life itself was one big grey area, with this theory in place it narrows it down to one big question - the origin of life. How the infinitely complex thing that is life came from nothing. We know how it comes from something, a complex chemical something but a wonderfully simple form of life, to a complex structure such as the brain, but we don't know 'from nothing'. As the video states, humans are essentially a by-product of stars, but its how those elements formed into a matter of life that remains the mystery. It's also narrow minded to call the theory of evolution 'full of flaws' when the answer to everything within religion is 'God'.

Science doesn't rule out the existence a God, merely the need of one.

Can we move past this? I hate these discussions more than anything. They're just so dumb because nothing constructive ever happens.

Let's talk about censorship and the government's ability to conduct/condone it. Whether it be moral or just within their limits. Sounds much better than this endless back and forth from two stubborn points of view that will never change. Plus... We sidetracked from the original topic of it being taught in schools.

Censorship similar to China's. Is it moral for the government to condone such action. As shown it's possible, but does this trigger clauses such as the Social Contract and such?

Sorry, I tried to ignore this argument but you're being too much of a pretentious little shit for me to just stand by. Everyone here is listening very carefully to what you're saying, and replying with simple logic and reason. What you're doing is ignoring what they're saying and throwing in more ridiculous arguments (if you could even call them that).

No, you can't make something from nothing. There is no set answer as to how the universe was created. The big bang theory says that the matter which makes up the current universe was all compressed, and the pressure which built up caused the matter to expand rapidly, creating the universe. How the matter got there, no one knows. But that's one theory. You can't say that this couldn't have happened, but that an entity that was just "already there" could have created the Earth with a wave of his hand. Creationism doesn't even account for the dinosaurs, let alone the rest of the universe, which we know exist.

And you can't stop people from notifying you. I would like to get my point across civilly, but of course, you dont want to listen. See what I'm getting at here?

I'm a nice guy really, just made the mistake of thinking we could have a sensible debate. You seem quite serious about your occupation though which is good. By the way, by creating light darkness is created, God didn't 'create' darkness, it's the absence of light.



MegaBassMan - so internet censorship? The China situation is very different from the SOPA thing, because in China they block sites for the sake of the government, rather than its people. SOPA was supposedly going to be a good thing for companies losing out to online crime, but still I don't think it's a great thing - though I'm not against regulations being put in place to make piracy harder to do.

I've got quite an interesting fact for this actually, not exactly off-topic. Did you know that there are more police officers in China stationed to moderate what 'internet' is coming in and out of their country than there are police officer in the entire UK police force? It's pretty crazy just how seriously China takes it.

Personally I see any organisation or government restricting information from people without their consent as being similar to a breach of their human rights. Ignoring the whole thing about confidential documents for the security of the country etc.
