Irrational's latest, retro-esque trailer for BioShock Infinite may be exactly what's been missing since the initial announcement of the game. "Columbia: A Modern Day Icarus?" features the voice of Infinite character Alistar Bloom, who briefly describes the origins and mysterious disappearance of the floating city Columbia. It's all in the form of a classic docu-video from decades ago. It's not even widescreen... and that's okay.
Considering the character-driven and action packed gameplay and screenshots we've seen recently on BioShock Infinite, this new trailer is a breath of fresh air. It takes me back to the early months of the game's announcement, when all attention was paid to the mysterious city of Columbia. Gamers long wondered about their mysteries, but that quickly shifted to why Elizabeth had two outfits in-game.
Here's to a return to form for Irrational, a return to weird. For a two-minute trailer with little to no actual gameplay, "A Modern Day Icarus" has gotten me more excited for BioShock Infinite than I have been in months. I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us before their March 26 release date. Stay tuned as we try to separate truth from legend.
