End Game DLC Discussion

So, it came out today and i've had a few hours playing it. Thoughts?

CTF is actually better than I expected. Fighting over the flags is fantastic, although its inevitable that the enemy always heavily mine and camp there own flag. Still, its easily overcomeable with a decent squad who knows what they're doing. Great fun overall and a welcome addition to the game modes.

Air Superiority is pretty meh upon first impressions. Its good that you can't eject but i'm sure some people are suiciding when they get disabled because I sometimes don't get the kill, even when I just blew their plane to smithereens. Not bad though.....Its pretty epic seeing 24 jets all having a dogfight.

The new maps are decent as well, especially the autumn one. I had some brilliant CTF games on that one earlier. Much better maps than Aftermaths offerings, upon first impressions.

It came out today? What platforms? What regions? Im a premium user on X-box in the UK, will i have it aswell?

And a 20x scope huh? has this been added with the DLC? Never heard anything about it. And did we get any new weapons no?

Damn i hope its available for download when i get home.

If I remember correctly from last few dlc updates, some of the assignments came available for the xbox the same time as the PS3 got the dlc. So they may be available to download now.

CTF is an interesting gamemode. I've tried a few games, and most have been slow because players aren't actually trying to capture the flag. What happens is the majority of the team laces the base with C4 and mines, and just wait back for someone to try take their flag.

Air Superiority is somewhat balanced and a fun game mode but it is kind of like the Xbox in that it'll probably lose some appeal in a week.

I really enjoyed AS on 1943 because it focused on dog fighting and strategic use of the scenery. I tended to do quite well. You could both ambush and retreat using the scenery. Because aviation in BF3 is so much faster, and the landscapes more realistic, it forces you to fight in the open. I've found a decent strategy is to fly close to the ground and wait for someone to pop countermeasures then go in for a quick lock-on and double missile release, guaranteeing the kill. I've not seen many making good use of the gun or rockets but I can't blame them since I've never mastered them myself. I've managed to lose the odd pursuer in the wind turbines on flats but that's it so far. Still early days.

I was also hoping for chopper battles. I thought it'd be cool to fly around through some claustrophobic gullies and valleys similar to that co-op level. if they could have lowered the altitude ceiling, it'd have forced some nifty piloting.

! just spit-balling now, but get this. How cool would it be to add a thin layer of cloud cover. you could then have the jets blasting around in the blue sky above and the choppers buzzing between the peaks hidden below! you'd need to be brave to cross the ethereal barrier in either vehicle for fear of what lay beyond. Swift-winged death for the chopper, or obscured and immovable cliff-face for the jets. You'd inevitably get cross-over though - folk be foolhardy.
