*bleep* Achievements and Trophies

I know, I know. Two threads in one day makes me look like an asshole, and I realize I'm flooding the front page a bit, but I need to rant a bit.

I'm trying to get the Battlefield Platinum trophy currently. Right now, I'm going for the one where you earn one of all ribbons, and I've been trying to getting Air Warfare for about 4 hours now. It's 3 in the morning, and I've been trying for it on-and-off all day. It's a bit ridiculous, and I've recently found myself asking "Why the hell am I doing this?" I mean, it's not fun in the slightest. My KD has dropped from a 1.8 to a 1.49 from just trying for this, and I'm not kidding. These achievements are making me do things that I generally would never think about doing, and I hate myself for letting it make me feel guilty.

I miss my childhood where I could play Mega Man X or LoZ: Link's Awakening with nothing in my mind but the epic scale of how the story was told. I wasn't bothered with meaningless goals that were nothing but a bunch of pixels. I miss going to bed thinking about what was going to happen next in FFVII, and anticipating the next time I'll get to play.

Multiplayer achievements in video games are an abomination, and need to be finished. They do no good for games, and only put guilt and a whole lot of burden on the gamer's mentality while playing the game.

Can you do this in private servers? Why not just organise a game with a bunch of people? I know you could (in a few days or so) get Machienzo and I to help out if on PS3.

Cyanide, why not organise a private session? I'll join in; of course assuming we all get turns on going for that ribbon.

I understand what you're saying completely. I do the same thing where the challenges and achievements will make me play rounds differently i cant just play the game and enjoy it i have to worry about all these challenges and ranking up, thats why the best fps games had no stats or rank system, just played the game and have fun, the deeper they make these FPS games the more that its just not the same fun anymore, its all competitive and about stats

As I just said in the Movies Lounge, I like online achievements. In Gears, I feel like there's something I'm working towards.

Granted here's where we differ: You seem to go way out of your way to get this one particular online Achievement, whereas I just "let them come to me". I don't worry too terribly much about Gamerscore and those that do perplex me. They're called games for a reason. If it's interesting and exciting to strive for those obscure Achievements, go for it, but if you're just grinding with annoyance, I don't see the merit.

On the canal map, near point C (i think, it's the point that is higher than the rest.) on conquest, there is a stationary rocket if you can take the point just wait on that and someone will wander by.

I'd rather have the satisfaction of achieving it myself, Machienzo

Also, shaunybaby, I looked all around that map on Conquest. There isn't one emplaced weapon around C or any place for that matter.

That's merely your opinion. I, on the other hand, love them. Makes it fun. I think of them as side-quests. Not necessary to acquire, but fun nonetheless when you do.
