Spider-Man 4

It's not been officially confirmed, but bits and pieces are being leaked. Since the second film, there's been a rumor Sony wanted an official listing of 6 films. Is this the first word we have on a screenplay as well as even a possible villain? Read below:

SHH! EXCL: David Koepp in Talks for Spider-Man 4!
Spider-Man writer may return for the fourth installment

quote
January 22, 2007 - Superhero Hype! has learned exclusively from a very reliable source that Spider-Man screenwriter David Koepp is in talks with Sony Pictures to write Spider-Man 4!

Our source tells us that the studio is really excited about Spider-Man 3 after having seen a first cut of the movie. Add to that the phenomenal reaction to the screenings of footage at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago and the momentum leading up to this point from last summer's Comic-Con, which have sparked the studio to approach Koepp about penning the fourth film's screenplay.

Koepp is not signed yet, but the studio is definitely moving forward with another installment.

Keopp recently finished the script for Indiana Jones 4 which received the green light from George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford. Besides the first Spider-Man movie, he has written such blockbusters as War of the Worlds, Jurassic Park, Panic Room, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible and Carlito's Way.

The first two "Spider-Man" films earned $1.6 billion dollars total worldwide. Alvin Sargent wrote the screenplay for Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 with a story from director Sam Raimi and brother Ivan Raimi. Spider-Man 3 kicks-off the summer on May 4.
Exclusive: DYLAN BAKER TALKS THE LIZARD FOR SPIDER-MAN'S NEXT SEQUEL
Actor also tells iF MAGAZINE that his wife is playing Mrs. Stacy in SPIDER-MAN 3

quote
January 22, 2007 - While promoting his new series DRIVE (created by FIREFLY's Tim Minear) which will air this summer on Fox, series regular Dylan Baker was also more than happy to chat about his roles in SPIDER-MAN 3 and some interesting possibilities for SPIDER-MAN 4.

Baker says that not only is he in this latest Spidey sequel, but his wife is playing Mrs. Stacy (Gwen's mom and the Captain's wife) which is an interesting departure from any version of the Stacy family in comics where mom is curiously absent.

"I am in SPIDER-MAN 3, and my wife Becky Ann Baker is also in the movie, she plays James Cromwell's wife and Bryce Dallas Howard's mother," says the actor. "Dr. Conners' wife has not made an appearance yet, at least not that I know of."

Fans will not be seeing the Lizard, Dr. Conners scaly alter ego in this film, but look for "more" from the good doctor in the next movie.

"In this one I am still in my business suit and that's all I'll say. I'm kind of the guy that Peter Parker needs to come to whenever he has those quandaries about what's going on," states Baker. But then continues on to explain, "All I can say is we're going to see a lot more of [me] at some point if what Sam says is true, and Sam is the guy who knows, so I am sticking with him."

And would the actor be up for being a main villain in the next Spidey flick?

"Oh yeah [I'd be up for that]," he exclaims. "I'm friends with Alfred Molina and I just saw him the other day and he had so much fun doing Doc Ock, that for me it's a no-brainer. So, put it in [the movie] and let's go."

Interesting. Not really surprised that they might be using The Lizard though, as I suspected that when I saw him in the second movie. I just didn't know when. As long as these movies continue to make money and be as fantastic as they are, the more sequels the better!

Any word on what Tobey thinks of doing all these extra sequels? I haven't heard him say anything about not wanting to do it in the future, but some actors get that way after a while...

As long as they keep the same cast, I couldn't ask for anything better. As these movies just keep getting better and better.

Not yet. I think he signed a contract saying that he has to do at least these three. I do know that Kirsten Dunst doesn't want to keep doing them though in fear that she will be known for that character, rather than for her other works.

re: Spider-Man 4

All (Raimi, Maguire, Dunst, Franco) were only contracted for 3 films. Once the third wraps up, they'll have no obligations to the Spider-Man sequels unless they work something else out. Be it picture by picture, or another 3 film contract.

Maguire once stated (prior to 2's release, back when his appearance was up for debate with his back injury and he was going to be replaced by then boy-friend of Dunst's, Jake Gyllenhaal) that he didn't want to be pegged "Spider-Man" for his entire career and that after his contract, he would move onto other projects. It remains to be seen whether or not he'd return.

Dunst has pretty much hated her time with the franchise, which is partly why so many disagree with her casting, aside they rabble on she doesn't fit the part, but the fact she never fully commits to any role she's ever played.

Raimi appears to love what he's doing but also seems to want to desperately try something else in the horizon. Which is why it seems the studio went ahead with locking in David Koepp to start a screenplay, before even locking in the director first.

The actors all once stated that after the three films are done, they'd only return for possible sequels if and only if Sam Raimi returned.

The only thing I see is Maguire is Spider-Man regardless whether or not you like him as the part. He IS Spider-Man and no one else could take his place, especially not half-way through the saga.

Eh, that's what people said about Bond and Batman.

Bond doesn't tell one story/journey through the course of several films. Each one is it's own and distinctly different. After each decade a new bond can have his time.

Batman... we just wanted a new director.

re: Spider-Man 4

They need to just close this storyline in this trilogy though. The thing that *bleep*s it up is that it is one continuous story. If they went with a fresh new storyline for SM4 then it won't be so bad having new actors.

As long as we get rid of snaggletooth.

Huge disappointment that The Lizard isn't making a solid appearance, just Connors, albeit that could all change obviously as nothing is guaranteed as of now but it still leaves a lot to be desired for me.

re: Spider-Man 4

If Raimi won't be in, and espicially Tobey I don't think i'm going to have any interests in a 4,5 & 6. I don't see how they can release 3 new ones with a totally different cast.

re: Spider-Man 4

So he wrote the 1st spiderman film? That was better than the 2nd one so if Spidey 4 does make it to theaters, i hope its better than Spiderman 2.

of course, everyone still has to see the 3rd spidey film and then we'll know how it stacks up against the first 2.

re: Spider-Man 4

I don't know. I wouldn't mind seeing a totally new cast for 4, 5 and 6. I have never been happy with Dunst as MJ. Tobey is a great Peter Parker, but I just don't think he really cuts it as Spidey. It could be the way Raimi is writing his dialogue, but I have always seen Spidey as more of a wise cracking, cocky superhero than he is being portrayed in the movies so far. I think that one thing Raimi is missing is the concept that most Spidey fans get, which is the fact that Spider-Man is NOT just Peter Parker with super powers and a cool costume. When he puts on the suit, he becomes a whole different person. He taunts the living crap out of villains, cracks lots of jokes, and has a lot more personality than Peter does. This is so important to Spidey lore, and I think that, for whatever reason, Raimi either doesn't get it, or just disagrees with it and has a different interpretation. This is not to say the movies suck, they don't. I am really looking forward to III, but I am also thikning that maybe Koepp can do a better (or at least a more purist) job on 4, 5 and 6.

I would also be interested to see how Maguire does (if he returns) as Spider-Man with a different writer and more classic Spidey dialog. This is just my taste, but I get the feeling that a lot of fans of Spider-Man would agree with me on this.

re: Spider-Man 4

Yeah, i haven't seen that "other" personility of Peter Parker as Spiderman. Spiderman's too mild mannered in the movies.

When you use spiderman in the Marvel vs. capcom/street fighter videogames, press select and he'll taunt his opponent by saying things like "Do your job!"
