Or am I misreading your post? Casino Royale is the first Bond book written, and should have been the first movie. Due to legal wranglings and other issues, Dr No was chosen to be first movie filmed instead, although it was the 5th book in the James Bond series. So the movies started out on #5 instead of #1. Imagine if Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was the first film of that series, and The Sorcerer's Stone was the last one filmed? That would be comparable. Casino Royale is now considered a prequel, a rebooting like was mentioned earlier, in the Red Dragon, Star Wars 1-3, and Batman Begins milieu. Most of the cast needed to be replaced, and they had gone too far budget and "top this" wise with the last few Brosnan films. So start from scratch, using "this is Bond's first adventure" to allow you creative license to do almost anything. I think the little tells they give in this film really set things up later. His response to "how do you like your martini, shaken or stirred?" is classic, and you learn why he says that in this film. Also, Martin Campbell directed both this film and Goldeneye. Something Sean Bean says in that film, about Bond finding solace in the arms of all the women for those he failed to protect, plus M's appraisal of her "misogynistic relic from the Cold War" are explained better in this film. If you watched this film first, and then the other Bond's, you'd be able to see better the character's maturity (although it still seems Bond is pretty immature). Since the films have been out 44 years, and not in sequential order (at least as they were envisioned by creator Fleming) it is a little harder to see that.

	Saw it on Saturday, absolutely fantastic film. I myself am a bit of a Bond enthusiast and I can honestly say that Casino Royale was one of the best out of them all. Craig's Bond just seems so true to the literacy Bond as he should be, cold, gritty and intense. The franchise has been going downhill for many years now, hitting a low with Die Another Day, which was just another action movie. Nothing against Brosnan, he's a good actor, but he really had some poor storylines to deal with. What I hope is that from now the Bond movies will continue as they were meant to; in order of the novels. And if the performances were as powerful and as true to Fleming's original creations, then happy days will be back indeed. Also, how funny was that camp German/Swiss banker at the end?

	I also wacthed it Saturday night. Pretty impressed, although there was not enough action. Craig is pretty good Bond but dosen't have much to say, he lets his moves do the talking which shows he is a pretty good actor. The storyline didn't impress me much, in my opion it went on a bit. At certain points I was thinking that it was the end of the film but yet, there was still more. The tortue scene was pretty fuuny though. ------------------- You're just an LA girl

	This movie united the 'great family movie trip' in our family, only because my dad and I both wanted to see it, and my mom tagged along. Apparently a friend of mine was sitting a number of rows back and I didn't notice. We both knew it was the first in the Bond timeline, but took place in modern day In this resect it was different because it required the understanding of the patrons to just say "Okay, what if the beginnings of Bond occured today?...". I'm not sure that I appreciated this, but they would have to have put a lot of work into old sk00ling their sets otherwise. I'd be interested in knowing if the next movie will take place last in the timeline again. Oh, and for the record in License to Kill Felix mentions Bond's dead wife from On her Majesy's Secret Service. I think in one of the more recent ones Bond also toys about with a jetpack from an older Bond movie and jokes that he remembers it (shortly before setting it off and annoying Q). For reasons I didn't understand Q branch played no part in this one. While it's considerable that the original Q is dead, Judie Dench plays the first female M, which certainly wasn't way back then. My dad and I laughed when we saw that Felix was, once again, black in this one, as he is normally white, and we commonly joke about the one other Bond movie where they decided to change his race entirely. We guessed that perhaps Felix is merely the title of the man who has that job in the CIA, but Bond seems to know him well throughout the years, suggesting that like Bond himself he's the same person. A possibility is that given that Bond would be around 86 now, they wanted something of a refreshal. Should they pick up years later with this Bond, I'd like to see more gadgetry. This lacked it except for a tiny transmitter bug and that arm locator thing. He barely used a gun and aside from the casino parts he did very little to embody the debonaire side of Bond. Brosnan was very debonair, but got awkward when forced to be physically brutish. Craig basically punched and ran his way through this movie, beating the crap out of enemies with his fists and taking abuse like a champ. None of the other Bonds could do this, but then again that's not what Bond was meant to be. 	people are taking the timeline into too much detail. if they had to stick to everything thing how bad the films would be. he actually got married in another film as well and his wife is shot in a drive by shooting, cant remember which one it was. the next bond films carries on from this one so will still be before Dr No. as for the jet pack that was in die another day or the one before that. the story lines do loosely follow but not to great detail as there have been the same baddies in multiple films. ------------------- Premiership Pools 07/08 Winner

Anyways, as said I really liked this one and I think it was good that it was finally made, especially with this fresh start. I'm anticipating seeing him in another Bond film with the more Bond like stuff. Gadgets and some more Gunplay. Although I LOVED the physical combat.

Good memory on that, Sonic Flash. Lazenby as Bond got to marry one of the best "Bond Girls" of all time in Diana Rigg in On Her Majesty's Secret Service before she was killed by Blofeld. Leiter did reference that, since he was getting married (except they kill his wife). In the Bond universe, the characters remain the same even though the actors do not. I liked Jack Lord as Felix Leiter, but Peoples Hernandez isn't bad. There was some guy playing Leiter in Thunderball who was a Clint Eastwood clone. I'm not so much into the gadgetry of Bond, since once you begin to use that, people expect more and more and more and more gadgetry every film. Towards the end (the last few films) it was all about the stunts, the gadgets, the car, and the women. Basically a generic action film with the James Bond title. And the Q branch didn't make their official gadget filled appearance in Bond films until the second film, "From Russia with Love." The actor who did Q does appear in Dr No to switch out Bond's Beretta for a Walter PPK, but is only introduced as "Q" and gives Bond some gadgetry in the 2nd film. Machiko Shima, you might want to get your eyes checked. There is a definite timeline to the film series, or at least a progression to the movies with some films having to appear before others. In License to Kill they reference Bond's dead wife from OHMSS; in The World is Not Enough they bring back the Russian oligarch from Goldeneye; in Man with the Golden Gun they have the redneck cop from Live and Let Die, even playing a few bars of the title track from that film; and in Thunderball, Blofeld/Number 1 references Dr No's death from Dr No. So there is a natural progression, with the assumption being the order the films came out is the order of the films, regardless of that being the case or not (Thunderball is actually the 4th Bond book, Dr No the 5th, yet they reference the death of Dr No in Thunderball).

I agree that original films of that calibre shouldn't be remade, but I would sooner that happen then see the made-up storylines of DAD and TWINE. What I really would like to see is the continuation novels given a go for the storyline. Don't know if you have read/heard of them, I doubt many people have. John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Amis. Some fantastic stories in there, especially by Benson. Indeed, personally I would prefer them to stick to the same race for a character, but then that's no different from when Judi Dench became M or the various (what appears to be) Chief Of Staff roles. Colin Salmon played them from TND to DAD, and there is another one in Casino Royale as well as Goldeneye. There is also Zukovsky and Wade in Brosnan's first two films. Speaking of Wade, he was kind of a replacement to Leiter after what happened to him in Liscence to Kill I think it was. 	Did you read the whole thing, Machiko Shima? There are 3 different movie connections there beyond just the death of Bond's wife. They would matter, and they do: It is impossible for #1 to say to SPECTRE in "Thunderball" that the death of their colleague Dr No was a serious setback prior to his death! Also, Robbie Coltrane's character Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky could not die in The World is Not Enough (inferred, although it could be he was shot and just passed out) after earlier referencing the help Bond gives him in Goldeneye unless that film occurred first! And the last of the three: it was pretty apparent the redneck sherrif J.W. Pepper recognized Bond in the orient from his run-in with him on the bayou in Louisiana. He even says so. Again, referencing an earlier movie in a later one, establishing a semblance of a timeline/progression. If you ignore these and say they don't matter, or they can be switched, you create a paradox and logical fallacy.

	I get your point but 'The World Is Not Enough' wasn't written by Ian Fleming. It might be an official film, but it's not official in Fleming's library. Zukovsky doesn't exist.
