I know that and that is why I usually like game movies that others don't.It just seems to be that there are very few games/cartoons/comics that I want a movie of to be rather similar.I mean I don't care that Mario Brothers is nothing like the game, I actually really enjoyed the movie.MK to me is obviously like Dragonball/Z.If it's not close to the source material then I have no interest in it.

Yes but there's a difference between changing some things and making something so different that it barely resembles the original source material.Take the Spider-Man movies for example.Changing Peter Parkers web shooting from man made webbing to self produced/shooting webbing is fine.That's just one little detail that has changed.Another example is XMO: Wolverine how Wolverine and Sabertooth are half brothers in the movie but not in the comic.Had they made Wolverine say a normal person that had blades simply stuck to his arms, people wouldn't have given the movie a second look.That's how I see that MK promo.


I want Baraka to be a Tarkatan.I want Shang Tsung to be s sorceror that consumes souls.I want the Netherrealm or Edenia to go alongside with earth.I don't want a mental case that slices his body up so he looks like an idiot in a mask with poorly attached blades.Reptile is ok because he has been basically human, a reptilian basically and a full blown bipedal lizard so in the game he's a mixture of varius MK Reptiles.

Hell, I'm interested in it, at least, and I hated both of the Mortal Kombat movies. At least they seem to be moving in the right direction, even if they're taking themselves a little too seriously throughout the short.

That fade out is so bad-ass. "Hanzo Hasashi is dead...my name is Scorpion." GET OVER HERE!!!!

I had low expectations about a third MK movie but this looks pretty good based on the trailer. They seem to be heading towards another direction focusing on realism rather than the mystical world of MK. I kinda wish Baraka was bald, but it'll still do. Reptile on the other hand looks plain sick. I'll definitely be checking this movie out. I'm hoping characters like Kabal and Stryker are in this time. I was highly disappointed they only got a mention in the second MK movie.

where as in this new MK, they are at least staying true to the element of MK, making it super gory and violent, and keeping the characters mostly intact. just because they decided to go Chris Nolan and make it realistic and take out the more supernatural elements (at least what weve seen so far, who knows if they decided to change that to some degree) doesnt mean they are erasing what makes it MK.

What makes MK MK is subjective to the tastes of the individual person.You may not think that removing the supernatural, magical, fanasy elements is removing what makes MK but I do.If it wasn't for all thise things I mentioned plus fatalities, I would hate the MK franchise because honestly as a fighter alone, MK is one of the worst fighting games made.I think the fighting mechanics/controls are some of the worst fighting I have played.BUT all those things I mentioned make up for the crappy fighting in my eyes.

Well honestly, other than the fact that the games themself are made very good from a techincal standpoint, they are still just stupid b grade games.I mean look at the TERRIBLE acting of the games.The Konquest sections have actors that sound like the creators just randomly picked up people on the street.

Agreed here. That doesn't look terrible, but it's not Mortal Kombat. It's like Avatar the Last Airbender without bending elements just as an action flick. Besides, isn't that just a fan video or something and nothing actually real?

The main story has always been about a "Tournament". That's about it. What happens to the characters is never really cannon as they always come back and the multiple endings contradict each other all the time, especially when the next game comes out. So to bash this short film and say they're not staying true to the MK lore is laughable because the games themselves have a hard time being consistent themselves.

The short film kept that aspect in check of the tournament. In fact, it almost reminded me of the movie Bloodsport meets Mortal Kombat; a deadly Kumite tournament with realistic portrayals of MK characters. Because that's what essentially they're going for.... what if Mortal Kombat was real and how would these characters thereby exist in our world? You still have to stretch the imagination just a bit for the sake of having Reptile, Scorpion and Baraka but it still works out quite well.

As far as you know with what's been proposed, Shang Tsung still very well collect his souls via some ancient Chinese ritual where they believe they can harvest the souls of the recently deceased in some ancient Chinese urn, which is why he holds this tournament to begin with. Something like he believes by doing this he can remain young like in folklore of the Countess Elizabeth Bathory where she killed young girls and bathed in their blood to preserve her youth and beauty. That actually would be cool if they did it that way with Shang Tsung. It'd be stupid if he just stood up and yelled "Your soul is mine" and in cue's some glowing eye-hand shit and we literally watch the soul being zapped out of the person's body.

If you're wanting a PG-13 portrayal of MK with sorcery and magical powers like you're watching some Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief movie, go have a love-fest with the first campy film or that godawful second one. I'd prefer a far more grittier realistic portrayal that kept the supernatural and mystical element to a minimal but stressed hard on the gore and fatalities. Yet that supernatural element is still there, pay attention, Scorpion reeked of it.
