Thirteen

Perverts unite, if this is what gets your rocker rockin'. This is actually in no way a sexual movie, save a scene or two that might have you squirming uncomfortably (if you really think about how old they are). Other than that, this was among the best I've rented in a while.

We all know what hell Middle School was, with the ongoing quest to land a seat at the Cool Lunch Table and maybe score a hangout or two with the Cool Friend Gang. At the same time, most of us were (or are, for some of you youngsters out there posting here) so superficially-minded that we were often prone to make all judgments on a person's character based on what they wore, what they looked like, and who they hung out with that we never gave some folk a chance, much less were able to empathize with the *bleep*ed-up situations that caused them to be the way they are.

This is a story about one such girl, a former geek who is so torn apart by her family and social lives that she will do anything to be friends with the hottest (and by far the wildest) girl in school. And when she does, one helluva spiral into self-destruction ensues, complete with more rebellion and partying than most of us did in high school as Evie introduces her to the wubbulous world of sex, drugs, and crime.

And so much of it so accurately represents the way kids that age act that it's scary. This is a great flick, partly because although I couldn't exactly relate (since I was such a goodie-goodie until my senior year in high school, I still saw this very thing happen to many of my "friends," albeit on a bit milder level. Definitely worth a rent, if not a cheap buy. Beautifully written, acted, and filmed in every aspect.

And I don't care if she's 16. Nikki Reed (left) is freakin' HOT. Evan Rachel Wood (right) plays the aforementioned lead "Tracy"; Nikki plays her popular new "best friend" Evie. Interesting side note: supposedly Nikki WROTE the script based on her own experience as the lead character by getting someone older to help write it.

im not sure if all of it happened, of if just some of it was based on nikki reid's experiences. i hear the director was going out with nikki's father and told her to write down all the things which were bothering her. and obviously she did!

Or even better, hot THIRTEEN year-olds! Just suspend that disbelief, buddy.

Actually, Angie, "consent" is a very vague term. If a 21-year-old bangs a new driver, "consent" or no, it can be considered statutory rape if it goes public.

On a side note, sleeping with KFC period should be considered illegal. Even in Thailand. They should call it stupidtory rape.

Just wanted to say that I'm not sure I agree with you guys, I reckon what they did could happen, and almost definitely does if not those extremes, then at least to some extent.
And I suppose where you go to school, it would be a little odd at mine, but it'd just be something that happened.

The bit I found odd was the way that Evie's aunty, or whoever it was relation, reacted at the end. I mean, she was the one who let them smoke and drink in her house, yet she reacted so badly to it. Not that everyone who smokes/drinks at 13 will get into drugs, sex, cutting etc but it is a possibility. I just found it interesting that someone so liberal would react so conservatively about it...
