Van Helsing

I seen this movie yesterday, and I also agree it was pretty boring and a HUGE disappointment. They used WAAAAAAY too much CGI and it looked so fake and even cartoony at times. And I thought the guy who played Dracula was absolutely terrible. One of the worst portayals of Dracula I have ever seen.
Another thing I didn't like, it was too goofy and comical at times. I was expecting a good serious vampire action flick, instead I got some goofy CGI action wannabe.
I'd give it a 5/10

I guess I'm just picky when it comes to stuff like this. I'm a big literature and myth geek, so when something screws around with legendary and literary stuff, I get picky. If they're going to use the names Dracula and Van Helsing, it should tie in with Bram Stoker's Dracula. If not, then get your own damn character names instead of stealing them. And I don't like things that screw up legends either. Like Dracula 2000, I ****ing loathe that movie! That screwed up vampire legends and the Dracula legends. Some changing in vampire legends doesn't totally bother me though, I really enjoyed Interview with a Vampire but I still think Anne Rice's vampire style is stupid. But the movie was good enough for me to look past it.
And I still stand by costumes are better than CG. I enjoy a lot of older pre-CGI horror films. Cause sure some things can look fake, but they look realer than CGI cause they're actually there, unlike CGI which just looks like a cartoon to me. Now not all CGI is bad, alot of it can look good. I thought most of LotR's CGI was good. There were a few instances where it looked bad, like when Legolas climbs all over that ellyphant in RotK and is swingin' around on a rope. That didn't look so good, but for the most part the CGI was good. But when it came to the orcs, they actually used make-up and real armor. CGI is good in certain parts, but it shouldn't be used for like ****ing 90% of the damn movie.
