January 14, 2013 - Today Vulture has run a rumor that suggests Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is prepping for an action film set in the Star Wars universe.

The site states that Syder is in fact developing a Star Wars project for Lucasfilm that is set within the series' galaxy, though parallel to the next trilogy. It will be an as-yet-untitled Jedi epic loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai, with the ronin and katana being replaced by the Force-wielding knights and their iconic lightsabers.

The report also adds: ...but one insider expects it will not be considered part of the "numbered" episodes, but rather a stand-alone film set sometime post–Episode VI events, meaning the next phase of the franchise development is much broader than previously thought. Our sources also say that Snyder’s would start production after Disney starts on its planned 2015 release of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Walt Disney is planning to release Star Wars Episode VII in 2015, followed by a new Star Wars film every two to three years. It was recently revealed that Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine writer Michael Arndt will pen Episode VII and that he already wrote treatments for an entire new trilogy, while Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg will also work on the films by possibly expanding the universe with spin-offs.

Snyder himself responded to rumors about him directing the highly-anticipated Episode VII late last year.

“I don’t think I’d be interested in directing it," Snyder told the LA Times. "I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort.”

A Seven Samurai inspired Star Wars movie, set apart from the numbered series but within the same universe? *bleep* yes please. Being a big fan of Snyder's films has me even more excited to see this happen, but even more to see some fresh characters outside of the Skywalker's. That's one of my biggest disappointments from the prequels is they didn't explore more of those in the Jedi Order. We got glimpses of them, but essentially the prequels were still about a Skywalker (and a Kenobi). Would have liked to see those films spread out a bit more with characters like Mace Windu, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Kit Fisto, etc.

Since Jedi are essentially samurai, and the article on Vulture talks about a group of Jedi going on a mission, I'm assuming all the characters would be Jedi, but it'd be badass if they also had a Bounty Hunter for some added depth or even a Wookie amongst their group. Maybe a Wookie Jedi? They had those in the expanded universe. I wonder who the bandits would be who they have to stop... a group of Sith perhaps, or Bounty Hunters, or just a new badass race of characters that give Jedi trouble?

Or not.

Zack Snyder, where extraordinary visuals come at the cost of story.

I'm not creaming over anything yet - especially not until we see what he does with Superman.

lavitz, aside from Sucker Punch (which I like), I'll give you that one since he wrote it himself. But what was wrong with 300, Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen?

300 was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my entire life. It was like someone fell asleep during history class, woke up, took some heavy drugs and the resulting acid trip is what got put on to film. I would not want anyone involved with that touching Star Wars.

Watches 300, a movie based on a comic book that is a highly exaggerated retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae. Declares it the worst movie of their entire existence when the movie isn't historically accurate when it was never intended to be. Please, never go full retard again.

Assuming you're not familiar with Frank Miller's work then? Fair enough then. By something being off, I'm going to also assume you mean the slow motion style? I know a lot of people who aren't fond of it and he likes to use it a lot in his movies, but when he's not using it (sometimes it does add to the visuals) he's got a very keen eye and creates some very beautiful cinematic shots in his films. Peep the new Superman trailer, there's some shots in there that are breathtaking, which goes back to what I questioned regarding lavitz's post. If he used that style sparingly, it could make for some cool Jedi/force moments, especially lightsaber battles.

He doesn't know how to do anything in regular speed. Dawn of the Dead was filled with terrible actors/acting and bad dialogue.
