Animation and Warner Home Video have set the voice cast for its upcoming animation adaptation of Frank Miller's classic 1986 tale The Dark Knight Returns. They say the story is being split up into two animated features titled Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and Part 2, with Part 1 hitting stores in the fall and Part 2 coming in early 2013. Peter Weller (Robocop) will star as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Modern Family’s middle child Ariel Winter will play Robin. David Selby, the veteran actor who starred in the original Dark Shadows soap opera as well as the classic 1980s soap Falcon Crest; Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face; and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, the psychiatrist who releases the Joker from the insane asylum. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is being directed by Jay Oliva, who storyboarded Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, from a script by Bob Goodman. They site adds the following synopsis for the title: The Dark Knight Returns is set in a near future where Batman is retired and Gotham City has slid into a dystopian state ruled by a gang of hooligans called The Mutants. The 55-year old Bruce Wayne is forced to don the cape once more, this time partnering with a female Robin to not only stop the Joker but keep the peace when the city falls into chaos after being hit by an electromagnetic pulse. This is going to be sick, but I wish they would have gotten Kevin Conroy for Batman and of course Mark Hamill one last time for the Joker. THR has more screens from the animated movie. WB should create a new Batman series that looks like these screens or what the Young Justice looks like, instead of that godawful CGI that they did for the Green Lantern animated series and for that upcoming Beware The Batman series. -------------------

	After Nolan leaves Batman, it could be... I think that would be pretty damn entertaining to see a live-action version of an older and retired Batman. Especially after Nolan's Trilogy to reinvent Batman's beginning. It's something different being that he's old, yet familiar at the same time because it's still Batman. -------------------

	Whilst I agree with that ^, there's no doubt in my mind that WB would be pushing for a Batman to fit in with Henry Cavill's Superman and a future Justice League. And I can see why they chose Peter Weller. He can give that old, retired hero tone. -------------------

	Returns was one hell of a graphic novel. This kind of makes me want to get it out. 	The Joker in TDKR Part 2, and voiced by Michael Emerson?! quote CBM After years and years of waiting fans are getting their wish, The Dark Knight Returns is being made in to an animated movie. Part One of the two part movie is set to hit stores this month on the 25th, with Part Two expected sometime in early 2013. News has been pretty quiet on the second movie, until now. TvGuide has released the first still from the animated film that showcases The Joker, who will be voiced by Michael Emerson. Emerson is excited to get the chance to play The Clown Prince of Crime saying, "He's one of those great villains that an actor like me likes to play because he has layers — he has a face for the world and a face for himself. He is, in a way, a villain who is a natural actor. All of that is that is delightful and confounding at the same time." He went on to say that the role of The Joker is freeing because of the largeness of it. That he doesn't do anything part way, everything is cranked up to 11. Those familiar with The Dark Knight Returns story also knows that Superman plays a part towards the end. Actor Mark Valley has been cast as the Man Of Steel, and joins Emerson as The Joker as well as Peter Weller returning as Batman. The Dark Knight Returns Part Two is scheduled to be released sometime in early 2013. Source Michael Emerson = Phenomenal. If you haven't seen him in LOST or some of his other works - get on that. 	Emerson works as an alternative to Mark Hamill but I am still upset that he retired from the voice of Joker. I am not familiar with this voice of Batman (at least I don't think I am) but I do know the actor and he should do it well. from what I have seen, I don't like the character animation in this cartoon, the faces are too square jaw / big chinned, I like the animation of Young Justice, I wish they would build off of that instead of messing up the face proportions like they are doing in this film. I am looking forward towards the next-next round of DC movies where they use the designs of the "New 52" gen of comics where all of the Superheroes are drawn perfectly, especially Superman, hopefully we can see that after the Man of Steel movie builds hype around the character. ------------------- "But I Being Poor, Have Only My Dreams, I Have Spread My Dreams Under Your Feet, Tread Softly Because You Tread On My Dreams."

	The character designs stay faithful to the graphic novel, and judging from the trailers, it looks great in motion. All the DC animated films tend to have their own style as well, they don't always go for the realistic look. ------------------- train by day Joe Rogan podcast by night, all day

	I'm not impressed with that animation, like they've gone with Under The Red Hood's style but thrown in the character designs from TDKR, it looks clunky for lack of a better term. Michael Emerson's an interesting choice for the Joker... He played a cold and calculating villain in LOST, but I'm not sure how well he'll translate such a quiet and subtle villainy into the careless abandon of the Joker's personality in this story. This would've been the perfect story for Mark Hamill to lend his Joker voice to. -------------------

	I think that's where I disagree. I'm completely okay with Emerson doing it over Hamill in this instance, as this takes place with older editions of these characters. Don't read that as I don't think Hamill couldn't do it - I just think the change of voice fits the character in this particular story (having not actually seen the voice/animation together, at least). I'm pumped for it. While TDKReturns was more difficult to read than a lot of graphic novels, the payoff was great and the story is absolutely great. A retired Bruce, lost in life after hanging up the cowl. A sort of post-apocalyptic feel with a mutant gang running around bringing up the crime rate. A young girl taking on the role of a Robin to assist the Caped Crusader as he struggles with his return to fighting crime in his old age There's so much in this story, and upon writing this - I'm bummed I didn't bring it with me on my trip.
