was Loki going down so easily at the end, would've loved a bigger fight where he could actually put up a resistance against the Hulk
Spoiler:Same but...
He did fight quite a few of the Avengers one on one before Hulk took him out. Had a pretty intense one with Thor and such. So yeah he likely wasn't 100% and hell, you can't expect what Hulk would do! xD

Anyone seen the Ultimate Avengers animated feature films? A few scenes in this live-action reminded me of the first one in particular. Thought it was a nice touch. ^^
When I saw it, there were no previews, haha. Went straight to the film.
I suppose. But it still seems rather rushed to me. And to put it on the DVD would ensure more sales, apart from the already mentioned deleted scenes by Whedon.
lol @ the first post of this page. Seems like you had clouded judgement going in. Everyone got a balanced amount of screen time, well...then again RDJ took most but still, the interactions were good, hit their mark. I don't know how you think it felt rushed. 2 hr and 15 minute film...and with that allotted time, it was damn fine pacing.

Someone had to take a stand. He felt he had an idea on how to assess the situation. Think back to Iron Man during the helicarrier fiasco. He took a stand then. His expertise in a sense, heh. I thought it was more random for Banner to just show up, haha. When was he being a no-brain jock? @_@ He looked at things from his old-style perspective.

I was kind of hoping Thor would have revived Iron Man like in the Ultimate Avengers 2 animated film. It was a fun way to return but I would have loved to see that reference.
Man I cannot wait to see this midnight. Question: Did the audience cheer for the introduction of each character? xD Everyone got huge ovations the second they appeared in the fan showing.
I'll stick around until after the end-credits though I have my doubts with an added scene.

Yeah I know about the mid-credit, saw this on April 14th. But after the world premiere the team got together to shoot some scene. Likely on the DVD then.

Haha, so that extra scene was like three seconds long. No dialogue but hilarious. xD I loved it. No one stayed to see this short clip but me and my friends.
Second show of this felt even better watching with friends and surprisingly, this theater was prepared for the numbers, gave enough show floors for it so we weren't too crowded. And the crowd was rather low-key, which helped me even more. I think my friends and I were the loudest there, haha.
Between the three of us, I got the Captain America 3D glasses, and they got Iron Man and Thor. Hulk...ah well!
Spoiler:Second end-credit scene
The food choice that Tony had in mind after they saved the world? They literally went there after grabbing Loki it seems, in a worn-out restaurant, crowded around one table, eating. Found it weird that they didn't have Loki to the side or anything but eh. It was hilarious seeing them in costume and all just sharing a meal together.

I was worried that, like quite a few action films, the fighting scenes would be blurry in 3D, but it stayed in pretty clear quality. I think I'll see Amazing Spider-Man in I-MAX 3D...trailers for it look badass already.

Marvel makes their films appealing to everyone, which works out from a casual perspective. Marketing and such to garner more tickets purchased. But at the same time, it feels like a comic. The drama, action, comedic moments, it really felt like a comic strip come to life to me.

The movie basically holds true to the comic book origins, save that Nick Fury and SHIELD did not create the Avengers. Also, founding members Ant-Man/Goliath (Hank Pym) and Wasp (Janet Pym) were not cast (Ant-Man had not appeared in a previous Marvel film and, therefore, had not been established for movie-goers, and Wasp merely appeared in a small cameo in Thor).
Anyone know any more details?
I don't believe this to be true. The only two standout easter eggs I know of are Hawkeye and the Infinity Gauntlet.
Huh, that's news to me. I know when Selvig mentions he may have someone who can help them with SHIELD and such, after they confiscate Jane's equipment, that person was Hank. I think they were originally going to use his name but dropped it.

Supposedly the scepter Loki uses has the Blue Infinity Gem on it, too (rather than powered by the Cube, that is).
Regarding Selvig's comment about a Gamma expert, I assumed he meant The Leader/Mr Blue (his name escapes me) from Incredible Hulk.
I assumed he just meant Banner Which I thought was confirmed when they do go get Banner once the Tessaract is stolen, cuz 'no one knows Gamma radiation like him'.
They didn't say Gamma expert in Thor if I remember correctly. Selvig mentioned someone who knows about SHIELD, which was Hank Pym.

"I knew this scientist. Pioneer in gamma radiation. S.H.I.E.L.D showed up...never heard from him again."
Selvig was talking about Banner and his absence (hence seeking him out in The Avengers). There's been no nod to Pym...yet.
Not that part, the partner he e-mails after saying that. That was Pym he was talking about. Feige confirmed that.
Spoiler:Interview
Feige: What are you remembering?
I think a few shots of the Destroyer and I was talking to [co-producer] Craig Kyle and he was mentioning to me that there might have been a reference to Hank Pym in the movie that might’ve been taken out.
Feige: That scene is in the movie. Literally the only thing we took out were the words “Hank Pym”. It was when Selvig, Darcy, and Jane are on the roof and S.H.I.E.L.D. has just taken all of their stuff. Darcy is complaining about her laptop and Jane is going, “Who the hell are these guys anyway?” Selvig then tells a story, which is clearly alluding to Bruce Banner, that he knew a gamma scientist and this thing happened and S.H.I.E.L.D. came up, which he had never heard of again. Selvig may or may not have all of his facts straight on that, but those are the rumors that go around the science world there. He goes, “I have a friend who has had experiences with these people. Let me email him.” That friend is Hank Pym. But we took out “Hank Pym” because it felt like, “Banner! Hank!” We were just like, “Enough.”
See they could have done something like Civil War did, Cap and Iron Man taking the spotlight for the most part, leading their beliefs. It would have felt like the TMNT animated film from a few years back, with only Leo and Raph actually...getting their time. Pushing aside the other characters in exchange for said "depth." Or like Watchmen did, Rorschach being the main focus because the story was being narrated by him, as depicted in his journal. But they went a much more balanced route, with everyone getting their chance in the spotlight.
For their interactions on the helicarrier, I think it really shaped them well. The arguments and mistrust all set aside because they all had the same goal in mind at the end. I mean, little tidbits like Thor attacking Cap with Mjolnir, to the end where he's saving the guy and helping back on his feet. Sure it's not anything deep, but heck, it's a superhero team based on a comic book series. It's meant to be a bit cliche and cheesy. It's not going to be some thoughtfully dramatic piece like say Inception is. Tagging this along with appealing to the majority of the audience and you've got the elements needed to make a successful Summer blockbuster hit. Take the film for what it is.

Overhyped, ah yeah that comes with the territory, heh. I've honestly had a film or two not live up to some expectations because of how much it was held in high regard. Understandable, then!

It was epic, though, in it's own way, at least to me it was. Comparing it to TDK is a tad bit silly, as they have -completely- different approaches. TDK had much more drama and focused on two or three characters at best. It was a dark, realistic, and serious tone. Avengers was more light-hearted in a sense, action-packed all whilst being hilarious. If anything, TDK had a ton of hype unanimously, even more than Avengers because well...Avengers is getting attacked by some critics around the world. Bollywood hates it for how "western" it is, people are jumping on the joking comment Thor made towards his brother, etc.. I don't remember TDK getting silly bashing such as that. It's been a few years, but yeah, honestly don't recall.
Given Marvel's history of their past few blockbusters, I myself don't see how we could have expected a completely different formula. They all have this similar pacing and style.

It's a film adaptation, it wouldn't follow exact comic standards through and through. They don't have time to 'flesh out' these bits and pieces. If this were a four hour film instead of a two hour film, then sure, why not? But it was simply a version of them. Look at Deadpook in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Now -that- needs more attention, how poorly that was handled. But eh, sacrifices must be made. This is the first time a team of superheroes of this caliber has hit the big screen like this, and for that...I'm willing to set aside how a version of the Chitauri were handled.
Wasn't Secret Invasion a 616 arc? This is set in the Ultimate universe. And if they would have gone with a style similar to Secret Invasion for the sequel, people would just complain about it not staying true to the original format, anyway.

For pawns they did tear up Manhattan pretty well even with the team there. And the team got pretty worn out. Numbers played a role but eh. Yeah, it's not following anything canon, and again, this is a version of the Chitauri, they aren't the comic ones at all. Heck, it can be played off as the "peasant" race, showing off the true ultimate skrulls in the next film, or the higher classes as the big man's army, if he even needs one. Besides, to further differentiate the film Chitauri from the comic ones, they look pretty damn different. Marvel played things safe by constantly mentioning they were alternate versions. Whereas they could have just eff'ed it up completely like with Bane in Batman & Robin, or Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, or even Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
I just don't see how they could have been any more fleshed out in the allotted time given.
quote Info
The biggest mystery surrounding Joss Whedon’s The Avengers was the identity of Loki’s alien army. There have been many rumors as to who they are, and the most popular seemed to be the Skrulls, but that was shot several times. Well, it seems that rumor is both right and wrong. Whedon revealed the aliens as the Chitauri or at least “a version of them”, who all Marvel fans know as the Skrulls in the Ultimate comics. However, Whedon describes them as the “Kree-Skrull” race. This is possibley being done so they could introduce the Kree/Skrull war in the future sequels, and to avoid wasting well established characters (at least in the comics).
It's definitely not a silly comparison, BullFish. Thanos' creation was inspired by Darkseid. And they have some similar abilities in terms of being strength, durability, telepathy, teleportation, etc..

The DVD release will have some deleted scenes and such, so if they do re-release the film in theaters, I don't know how much I'd bother going back a fourth time when I've already put down for Blu-Ray.
