The Lords of Salem

What is not to like here

Plot:
Heidi Hawthorne, a blonde rock chick, DJs at the local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the "Big H Radio Team." A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, "a gift from the Lords." She assumes it's a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords' record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later, Whitey plays the Lords' record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they're expecting -- the original Lords of Salem are returning, and they're out for BLOOD.

I don't know what the hell I just watched.... but it looked pretty *bleep*ed up and made me want to pick up my bible and go to church.

Wow. That looks...creepy as *bleep*.

Haven't really been too big of a Zombie fan. I'm kind of torn because I like his unorthodox style of filmmaking, but Halloween 2 was so flipping bad and filled with unnecessary gore (cue nurse killing scene where Myers stabs her 50+ times). I'm curious about this film though just because it looks so goddamn creepy..

Kopped this on a digitally versatile disc on the strength of reccomendations and RZ's first two films. Glad I did, it's a slow burning mood piece akin to Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby and Jacob's Ladder. More about the atmosphere of dread and weirdness than the usual grinding B-movie stylings of Mr Zombie. Classically filmed too which I rate, had it up to here with shakey cams.

Sherie wasn't terrible and she did sleep with her arse out a lot, which was odd. Spotted dudes from the original Dawn of the Dead and Hills Have Eyes in the cast but couldn't see Sid Haig despite him being in the credits.

Didn't go in the direction I expected neither, after the *public broadcast* I halfway expected it to turn into a Pontypool/Cellesque affair but it kept things low key.

Overall I like it a lot regardless of all the symbolism for symbolism's sake.
