I don't see how that would matter. There cannot be a prequal involving humans since we had the first Alien human encounter in the ALIEN movie. It only stands to reason that they show the story of what happened to the Alien ship they found, carrying the other Alien species.

QFT, which is why I too, said that I think maybe it'll involve the origins of the Alien species, and of course (as I said before), the poor bastards that ran across them (that appeared, very dead, in the first movie)....

Chances are though, that they'll do some shitty derivative plot where some random exploration vessel came across them before the first crew did in Alien....Of course, that means that they all up and died, and probably became a legend (which no-one spoke about in the 4 Alien movies that took place after it, chronologically). Or maybe some BS about losing memory after the event (because of physical or emotional trauma), or some crap. Oh, oh wait, this is pure hollywood right now....

Wait for it...

The Riply-clone survives on a planet with Aliens, after the vessel she was in crashes (possibly she uses an ejected lifeboat, either leaving all the aliens behind to die in the no doubt massive explosion/crash, or the final alien attaches itself to the ship, but possibly burns up on re-entry). Either the planet is one occupied by aliens to start with, or at least some survive the explosion/crash....

Cut to the Ripley-clone looking a little worse for the wear, but standing strong against a backdrop of Aliens in the distance...

This is pure Hollywood because it is both predictable, and sets itself up for a sequel (a prequel-sequel..."Seprequel" (Sequel-prequel)? ~_~)....

Can anyone else smell this crappy Hollywood plot in the making?

If they do my 'classic' Hollywood plot, I want royalties!

UK, July 31, 2009 - After months of speculation, Variety is reporting that the Alien prequel is definitely on, with original Alien helmer Ridley Scott set to direct.

Twentieth Century Fox has also hired Jon Spaihts to write the script, which will precede the first Alien. Annoyingly the report doesn't go into any more detail about the plot.

Spaihts has also worked on the upcoming sci-fi Shadow 19 starring Keanu Reeves, and will rewrite Timur Bekmambetov's The Darkest Hour.

It is the first Alien movie Ridley Scott has been directly involved in since the original, with Carl Rinsch previously linked to direct the project.

Well it's great news that Ridley Scott is on board. I don't think the franchise needs any more movies but if it had to be made, I'm glad Scott is the one behind it.

Will be weird seeing someone else play Ripley though. Ripley is one of my fave movie characters and Weaver will always be the one and only in my eyes. But it will be interesting to see what the actress who gets cast does with the role.

Considering it's a prequel it probably won't involve Ripley at all, her role in franchise starts in Alien, it'd screw over the storyline if she had some encounter with the Xenomorphs beforehand and if they leave the Xenomorphs out it's hardly an Alien film. I'd expect little to no mention of Ripley tbh, aside from the occasional nods.

Speaking of which maybe this movie will show where the Xenomorphs actually came from. They were in that alien ship in both Alien and Aliens, but it was never explained where the ship came from.
Speaking of which, what happened to said ship? If memory serves the events of Aliens happened because someone went to explore said ship and got attacked by a Facehugger, but that would mean there's still loads of eggs in the ship waiting to be discovered.

Whats with the Requiem hate? Sure the human roles seemed Sci-fi channel-ish, but the fighting and the Predalien were awesome!
Anyway, if the prequel treats the AVP franchise as part of its storyline, then the Ship in Alien/Aliens will be Predator made. (Most Likely). Since this movie is going to be filmed after James Cameron's AVATAR, the CGI should be godly.
