It really means nothing that an early form of a Xeno is seen, other than the speculations of whether the Black Goo is responsible for creating the Xenomorph chain of species since the creatures in the film (snake thing and squid) all have facehugger features. Not riding a high horse, I just paid attention to the movie. If you honestly believed that Alien is a direct sequel to this, and not just a separate series entirely, the writers and director did a horrible job. Also, the scene right before that is Shaw and David setting off for the Engineers home planet, how does that not imply a sequel? I can genuinely say that I didn't think they were pushing towards a sequel. If anything, I just chalked it up to them heading to the Engineers Homeworld that probably is already ruined or they are the ones that ruin it buy bringing their genetic weapon to infect their race, and them boom -- Aliens. If you follow the timeline between this and Alien, Prometheus didn't arrive at LV-223 until 2093. And in Alien, the cargo transport Nostromo received the distress call from the alien ship in 2122. That's 29 years in-between the stories that are occupying the same universe. So technically they can fill in the gap between Prometheus and Alien with two more films. So that could null/void any assumptions that this was a direct-sequel. I was aware it was a prequel, though. Since Weyland Corporation had not yet merged to become the Weyland-Yutani Coporation. -------------------

	Mm AK, I put "imply" because even if they chose not to do a sequel, you still get that impression from the ending. It could just be Shaw and David off to explore the universe to end it. I can definitely see things play out as you put them. Shaw bleeps up their entire planet, one manages to take off, though with massive amounts of eggs on board, gets killed, and crash lands on LV-426. Some of the deleted scenes can be seen here. I didn't look at any interviews either, and I don't see how anyone can consider Shaw and David heading for the Engineer's homeworld a direct lead into Ripley and friends flying around space. A prequel doesn't have to "directly" lead to the sequel. For example, the end of Revenge of the Sith just shows the beginning of Darth Vader. Its actually pretty parallel to this case with Prometheus, it shows a xenomorph (or xenomorph ancestor if you want to split hairs again). Thats basically all the movie needs to be called a prequel set in the same universe, a single connection. ------------------- Express yourself

Nobody said that it isn't a prequel, but you're the one who said there won't be a sequel to Prometheus (which still is before Alien). ------------------- R.I.P. 	Saw this recently, really enjoyed it, moreso having read some of the links and theories posted here. The Jesus thing is pretty mind blowing, but the one thing I don't quite get, and I don't think that theory really goes into, is how precisely that led to the evil slime and the engineers being destroyed in the first place. It suggests that the slime took on the characteristics of whoever it came into contact with, hence human contact making it evil, in which case the initial meltdown at the station would've required a human presence there, would it not? ------------------- THE INTANGIBALLS

	I just watched this and I have to say I'm very dissapointed. Visually, the movie was gorgeous. I imagine it will look spectacular on blu-ray. I also enjoyed the little links here and there to Alien, it was fun trying to work out how everything was connected and I really enjoyed the very last scene. That was probably the only enjoyment I got out of the film. The characters had no depth to them whatsoever. They were horrendously underdeveloped and I found myself not giving two hoots whether any of them lived or died. Even Shaw, the "main" character I suppose, was pretty useless aswell. I cared about pretty much every single character in Alien (I'm going to compare the two as they're set in the same universe, have connections and are from the same director). They were all engaging, had depth and had great dialogue. The script was pretty weak for this film. The tension. It fell absolutley flat. Alien had a very gradual build up of tension, to the point where you were on the edge of your seat. I found this to rely more on cheap scares than anything. The Engineers were supposed to be a threat to humanity but I found them completley the opposite. They looked great, they looked threatening. But they acted more like angry, lumbering beasts. It was taken down far too easily and quickly, there was no build up whatsoever. The final confrontation was very anti-climactic. I like a movie that makes you think but it really left me with more questions than answers. I know that's what the sequel is for but I found it more frustrating than perplexing. Not a bad film but highly dissappointing. Didn't live up to my expectations at all. -------------------

It's not meant to be what you obviously wanted it to be. Of course, I wasn't expecting it to be another Alien movie. I was aware that they were two separate films. The first time I saw the trailer, not yet being completely aware of it's connection (or lack of) to Alien, I remember thinking how different it looked to Alien and how good! My comparison in my last post was of the characters in both films more than anything, I should have been clearer about that. The characters were my major gripe with this film I suppose. I just think it lacked a lot of things that make a good movie. Weak characters, weak script, lack of substance. Amazing visuals but not much else for me I'm afraid. -------------------
