And whats more, your the one who thinks Mr, Freeze is the best option for the nolan films... I think i understand these movies, let alone the characters a hell of allot more than you do. Character development is the beackbone of this film, Harvey Dent's story arc is the backbone, The Joker twists and taints his mind, you can visibly see this in the hospital scene (An amazing scene, brilliantly shot by Nolan). I'm fairly certain neither of us understand the characters OR the movie as much as Nolan does and he has personally stated that he could pull Freeze off. I, personally, don't see how that is possible but have complete faith in him if that's who he chooses. We've already seen the father figure in Ra's Al Ghoul, and we've seen the friend in Two-Face, and the pyshcopath in Joker. There's no reason to any of those again. Nolan has a sound blaster in Batman Begins, what's to say he couldn't rationally explain an ice gun? I want Freeze just because I want to see how Nolan would handle it. Freeze lost a wife, Batman lost Rachel, and they both chose different paths afters - i see some relevance to the character beyond saying "Ice to meet you." And @ whoever thinks Two-Face is dead. No chance. Killing off Two-Face is like killing off Gordon or Batman. Nolan is just covering his bases in case something out of this world happens and Eckhart isn't available. If he is, Two-Face will be in. There's so much more his character has to do.

If I'm honest I actually think this film is one of this years overrated films of which has failed to live upto its expectations.
However I've been told that I should watch it again as most people who have said that have watched it again and loved it. Luckily before I saw it at the cinema yesterday I met a Chinese guy selling DVDs and got TDK off him for free.
There's not one part of this post I like. What's with people and bootlegging movies...

@Sam --
Of course you can not like it. I can actually see alot of people not liking it. It's really dark and heavy. I just think that sicne this is a forum itd be worthwhile to say why you don't like it instead of just posting that you think its overrated - or if you have no good reason then at least say that so patrolling assholes (like myself) don' expect to have a discussion.

My only problem with the Riddler is that his most interesting story would be trying to figure out who Batman is. I'd need another villain causing a bigger problem (coughTwoFacecough). But yeah, that poster made me like the idea of the Riddler ALOT more than before. I just can't imagine Nolan doing a character so much like his Joker again. He's going to shock us with something new (I hope). Anyway, I really don't care who the main badguy is, because it'll be awesome regardless. I just hope that they don't find some reason not to include Selena Kyle. She HAS to be in the next one, just about as much as Rachel HAD to die in this one. EDIT - now that I think about it the Riddler would give Bats a good reason to use the Computer in the batcave

They basically already did all this with the Joker viral marketing campaign. That is EXACTLY how you'd have to handle Riddler, but its not original. Someone else made it. Which makes me think Nolan won't do it. W/e
3 years is going to be WAY WAY WAY too long to wait. They better start dropping little tidbits in about a year

My fanboy choice for Riddler would be Giovanni Ribisi. No way in hell it'll be Depp. Nolan won't pick a huge celebrity. I'm not even convinced it's going to be Riddler. Goyer stated about Batman 3, that for Begins they picked 2 villains that had never been in anything more than a cartoon and that there's 70 years of badguys out there for them to choose from. So I wouldn't put money on anyone (except Catwoman of course) being in the next one. Killer Croc has just as much a chance as the Penguin.

I know, right? Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Christian Bale, and Heath Ledger aren't big stars at all. Touche. Though Bale wasn't a household name before Begins.

Going off your Penguin has already been done comment, Riddler has already been done as well. That whoel viral campaign for the Joker is exactly what the Riddler does.
I honestly have no clue who the badguy is going to be, but I'd put good money on it not being Riddler and that Catwoman will be a character (not the main villain) in the 3rd movie. Other than its really really up in the air. Characters who can fuction as main villains are Freeze, Two-Face, and possibly Hush.
I'm really hoping for Catwoman, Two-Face, and Freeze with the last of those causing the most problems.

Can anyone recommend a good Bane comic. I have no idea who the character is other than some oaf that breaks Batman's back.

No one in their right mind will compare anything Nolan does to Spider-man. If he does Freeze it will be done so well people will think he could actually be real.

Ironman and Batman have a lot in common too but you don't see anyone comparing the two movies. Sure there backstories and motives might be similar, but whatever appears on screen will be much heavier than the flat/useless character that was Sandman. Yes, he has to become evil to save a loved one, but it'll be done right.

Here's another example. Joker in 89 and Joker in TDK. The EXACT same character was done differently by Nolan. I really doubt that anyone would COMPLAIN that Freeze's backstory was too close to Sandman's

I suppose. But if the movies anything like TDK, which I suspect it will be, I think Nolan can use whoever he wants and people will be happy.

quote ChiroVette
My feeling was that VERY FEW people were in on it, because Batman and Gordon both realized that they had no idea who they could trust even on the police force. In addition, Gordon was more worried about reprisals against his wife and kids from what I saw.
I'm fairly certain that Dent, Batman, and Gordon were the ones that put the whole thing together and that it was only those 3 that knew that Gordon was still alive - much like in Long Halloween when it is only those 3 that still know that Harvery Dent was alive. I also think, that they didn't plan on Gordon accidentally getting shot. I think he got shot, they made it look like he died, and then went from there.

Killing off Gordon is like killing off Harvey Dent. Which is why I don't believe Dent is dead... although I just watched it again this Saturday and actually felt like he died this time... though the coin landing on life is soooo for Dent and not the kid.

re: The Dark Knight

In a technical sense he definitely flipped for Jim Gordon's son - I'm just saying that as a symbol the coin landed on life when the question of is Dent dying was raised. The actuall good counter arguement, other than HE'S DEAD!!, is that you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain - so if Joker really lost then Harvey Dent needed to die to stay a hero. But w/e -- we'll see whenever Batman 3 comes out (I think Dent is one of the 3 main character to the story so I'm hoping he's back, but wouldnt be too torn up if he wasnt) Anyway, here's a REALLY good article about Robin and how he could fit into the third Batman and if he should even be in it. Here's an exceprt: quoteAlongside Alfred, Robin also serves a vital role in defining and maturing the Bruce Wayne/Batman dynamic. Without both his faithful manservant/father figure and devoted apprentice by the Dark Knight's side, it's easy for the Batman/Bruce Wayne relationship to fall into the trivial and overly simplistic notion that Bruce Wayne is the mask and Batman is the true personality. Befriending, mentoring and eventually adopting Dick Grayson is perhaps the most important development in Batman's life, at least from a perspective of proving that he has not lost all of his humanity behind his Dark Knight persona. In many ways, the Dick Grayson/Robin character brings the third, truest side of Bruce Wayne's character front and center – the personality that doesn't need a mask, the one that only shows itself when Batman lets down his guard in the Batcave while trading quips with Alfred or training his future sidekick.
When you look at it from this perspective, Robin's necessity to the Batman mythos becomes clear. In addition to mirroring Batman in a more positive manner (and the second Batman film was ripe with negative mirrors to Bruce's nature), Robin is the keystone of Batman's humanity. It's through him that we see Bruce successfully fight off his demons and remain a force for good, rather than become just another destructive sociopath stomping around Gotham. The "demons" of course being Bruce Wayne becoming an orphan and "fighting them off' being taking in orphans. Anyway, here's the link

Honestly, which is better?
This movie, or The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King?
I mean, I honestly didn't see Return of the King getting more than three or four nominations... and it won a VERY overrated eleven awards. I think The Dark Knight stands a chance. It is actually a really good film. Like, I mean an actually incredible cinematic masterpiece.
The Return of the King was a beautiful movie. Maybe didn't deserve best director, but the final product was fantastic. It definitely compares to TDK.
