Two things about that make me happy. The first is none of this combined villain nonsense. The other is the introduction of Justin Hammer. Hopefully, his portrayal will equal the scumbag of the comics.

If the photo is out this soon, then it must be an early-scene, no? I'm guessing that is somewhat of a proto-type of his that he will build-on later. Remember when Stark was trying out the boots and the gloves?

Now you're mixing movie and comic characterizartion and continuity. Stark in the source material hangs on to all of his old armors and does use them on occasion.

Actually, back in the late '90s when he learned his current armor gained sentience he went back to using one from about eight iterations back. The most recent armor he had to quit using as he could not operate it effectively with his Extremis abilities negated. Currently, he's having to use progressively older suits as his ability to use the more recent and advanced ones is deteriorating. You actually fairly often see an older suit be used. It tends to be a motif to either introduce a health problem (which has been fundamental to the character since his inception) or to make the Invincible Iron Man a bit less invincible.

Should be the character's gimmicked whips. In the film's story likely a massive electric current through them I would guess.

Well, I did admit he reverts back when something is wrong with his main suit. Such as it becoming sentient. And if I remember the reason he went back 8 iterations was because He didn't want a repeat incident. The failure of the Extremis stuff sounds like much the same He can't use the newer armors because they are reliant upon that particular addition to his body. Eventually he will invent another newer more powerful armor that doesn't need it. Until then he will use the older ones. Pretty typical. He invents newer and better models all the time and reverts back when the newer models fail.
