It's hard to imagine that Level-5 Studios started developing their first game, Dark Cloud, over ten years ago with a team of 11 people. Since then, they've built such powerhouse franchises as Professor Layton, White Knight Chronicles, and the never-ported-to-North-America series Inazuma Eleven. What's perhaps most inspiring is their dedication to fresh, creative and original properties, like Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.
Namco Bandai and Level-5 have put together a new trailer for the PlayStation 3 exclusive title, and it's unbelievably charming and warm-hearted. Co-developed by Studio Ghibli, the title feels quite like an early Disney film, or much like The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Of course, that's likely hardly comparable to what Ghibli has put together here, but at the least it maintains a similar sense of childhood innocence and adventure.
Ni no Kuni has already been released in Japan for both the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 3, almost a year and a half ago. Obviously disappointed with the localization process, Level-5 registered with the ESA so they could publish North American titles themselves. The self-publish model directly effected Ni No Kun: Wrath of the White Witch's release, because the original early 2012 release date is now Q1 2013. It's likely worth the wait.
