Frozenbyte loves their community, and when Trine 2 players complain the game is too easy, the developers listen. Hence, Trine 2 update 1.14 adds a new "Hardcore Mode" to the mix, in addition to other improvements, like an option to disable the "self-levitation" trick.
Frozenbyte CEO Lauri Hyvärinen seems confident in the difficulty of Hardcore Mode, and likens it to the first game's difficulty. He also absolves himself of any responsibility over ruined relationships -- in case Hardcore Mode leads to anyone breaking up with their BFF.
"The Hardcore Mode is our thanks to our most hardcore fans, and a throwback to the good old days. This is for the fans who thought the Tower of Sarek level in the first game was just right in its pre-patches state, for those who really want an extra challenge from the game. The Hardcore Mode adds a big value to replayability, especially in online and offline co-op, and really means you have to work together or face game over.
"P.S. We take no responsibility for broken relationships attributed to the Hardcore Mode."
It looks like this mode has only been added to the PC version for now. Trine 2 also happens to be 50% off this week (until April 2) on Steam. The game is also available for Mac, PSN and XBLA.
