news Week One Sells Out - Japanese Sale Statistics Updates

Let's do a little math here: the first Japanese shipment of New Leaf consisted of 600,000 copies. Reportedly, all of these copies are sold out as well as the limited edition 3DS LLs which are already out of print. In addition, 200,000 copies of the game were sold via eShop download. Together, these sales amount to 800,000 total copies sold in the first week and people are STILL LOOKING. Nintendo has already confirmed a shipment of 300,000 extra units by the end of this week which is also expected to sell out in a few days.

This is really impressive, but you have to consider the order restrictions Nintendo put on the retailers. Still, 800k copies is a lot. Maybe Nintendo of America will get the hint and speed up the release here... probably not. But props to the devs and the series on a job well done during week one.

This is a little disconcerting. If Nintendo can barely handle Japanese demand for this game, I wonder if they may be reluctant to release it elsewhere for quite some time.

Can someone describe to me what buying things off of the eShop is like? Do you need to use a credit card or something?

If its anything like that in United States I'm going to have to wait awhile. D:

So true. I think Nintendo said the US launch date would be in the first half of 2013. Sounds more and more like it will not be until May or June, at this rate, if even then.

And yes, I am cracking up reading your last sentence I quoted above but it is so true! The longer we wait, the more eager we are to get it. And we have sure waited a long time.

My game has been pre ordered for a long time, never a problem getting it. I always get a call or text telling when the game is out and what time the store will be open.

I would definitely go for it, but if you want to have the game on the release date I wouldn't risk preordering it online. I've heard of too many instances where shipping takes an extra day or two or orders get backed up last minute. If you're not afraid of that and just want your copy then go for it, but I'd rather just do it at a place like Gamestop where I know they'll have my copy when I get there.

Thanks for the info! I have never pre-ordered anything before, so this is good to know. Being an older person (64), it is hard for me to stand in line like the people in that photo but then that may be what is necessary to get it on the release date at someplace like Gamestop, I could probably stand waiting for a week after release, but not much longer. I would be really upset if they ran out completely everywhere and I had to wait for weeks or months.
