Pretty, Empty Shops

Waaaay back now we had a discussion about the graphics of OoT 3D, and how part of the update was to add extra detail. One of the most obvious examples was how full of life the shops became. Despite the fact they look full of life, are they really?

So what I'm asking is, did you guys use the shops much? If so, what did you tend to buy? Or is everything too easily available out in the fields and dungeons? Was there an opportunity missed to give us a reason to have all those Rupees?

I was a total cheapskate and kept running through the patches of grass with Epona to restock on arrows.

And yeah, I'd say purchasing the Deku Shield is really the only time I ever used the shops.

I found myself going into the Zora Shop often, but only to laugh hysterically at their merchandise.

Red Potion - 50 Rupees
Arrows (50) - 90 Rupees
Fish - 200 Rupees
Deku Nuts (5) - 15 Rupees
Arrows (10) - 20 Rupees
Arrows (30) - Rupees
Zora Tunic - 300 Rupees
Recovery Heart - 10 Rupees

... Like I'm going to spend 10 Rupees each for a recovery heart. I am either taking a little bit of damage to where I can just find any few Recovery Hearts that I need to restore myself to full health out in the field or not taking any damage at all. Don't even get me started on the Zora Tunic. Much less the fish. Eh, I guess the Zora Tunic is somewhat plausible in case you lose it to a Like-Like that can reach you but you can't reach it, but come on. A fish, for 200 Rupees? That's like... No. I will be amused at any of you who has happened to of had the unfortunate pleasure of being ripped off with this deal.

Hmm. Do sidequest shops count? Pretty much the deku shield and green or blue potions only in terms of item shops. Though even the potions are rare purchases since I get them just for the last battle. I tend to be tripping over all the ammo supplies Hyrulian nature seems intent on throwing at me.

Roxas I find the idea of them selling fish hilarious purely based on the fact that you can literally walk out the shop, go to the left and catch your own very easily.

Though I suppose it makes more sense in the future where that isn't possible. But by that point their potential customers have mostly vanished.

I do occasionally buy Blue Fire if I don't feel like going into the icy cavern in the biggoron sword quest.

I always did the entire Ice Cavern during the BSQ since I knew I'd have to do it eventually anyway.

I guess they have it in stock to fool customers into thinking that they aren't obtainable anywhere else if you don't look hard enough anyway, but they are not hard to miss.

I usally buy blue potions.

Well, at least the bugs tend to be under rocks. It takes a violent hero like Link who impulsively breaks everything in sight to make finding them easy.

That thought never occurred to me.

brb, going to single-handedly boost the Hyrulian economy by buying overpriced junk from every shop in the land.

It's hard to sell to zombies though. That's why the shops relocated to Kakariko where potential customers are less about BRAAAAAINS and more likely to have rupees to spend.

Come to think of it, these shops must do amazing business in general. I mean, 7 years and 1 kingdom-wide disaster later and they're still open for business as usual.
