Unofficial Enemy of the Week! - Anubis

The Anubis live in the Spirit Temple only. They have an appearance of a mummified Egyptian creature and are based on the Egyptian god of afterlife.

Link first meets one as a child, where we find out its attack patterns. To Link's relief, it doesn't attack at all.

As Link moves around the room, the Anubis will mimic him.

It may appear to be harmless, and its purpose is just to annoy Link. However, if Link tries to swing his sword, the Anubis will breathe fire on him, burning our poor hero.

To kill an Anubis, Link will have to use fire himself. Din's Fire is a healthy choice, and will take an Anubis down with ease. Fire Arrows will also destroy an Anubis without much of a problem. However, if Link is a child, and has no magic left, he will have to resort into tricking the Anubis into a fire trap, usually activated by a nearby switch.

So what do you think about this weird foe? Would you have liked to see more of them? Did they cause you any trouble? Why do they breathe fire if they are weak to fire? What is under the bandages?

Yeah, like you said they are very interesting creatures. I think they're really underrated, too. Wish there were more of them.

As for how long it will stay unofficial, you'd need to ask Dark Arcanine. I'm hoping if these prove successful he'll make them official but I'm happy leaving them unofficial for now. I don't even have a set time for writing these yet.

Like you said, interesting creatures. It's a shame they don't really go on the offensive but still a pretty cool enemy I think. When I played the original OoT I couldn't fight them to save my life, for some strange reason they scared the crap out of me as a kid.

Would have loved to see more of them scattered around Hyrule, good choice on picking this enemy

Interesting they could be old guardians of the temple itself. I think they're more likely to be something Kotake and Koume made as a distraction to toy with Link. They're too passive to really be an enemy, just an inconvenience at best.

It certainly does make them interesting, always made me wonder why they're like that. Bit of a mimic tactic they have going on. It's a shame their attack is pretty lame, would of been better to see something that could actually do some damage.

It's just a little flame it uses to attack. No knock back either, it also does 1/4 of a heart damage, so pretty weak too.

I'm pretty sure they don't respawn when you kill them. Which is a shame as I like to do the same. I used the N64 emulator and just used the cheats for all warp songs and paid them a quick visit
