As a child, nearly everything about Majora's Mask scared the shit out of me. I couldn't start the game on my own because I was afraid of the giant Mad Scrubs in the sequence when you're turned into Deku Link. I couldn't talk to the Happy Mask Salesman, or even go into the Clock Tower because I was scared of him and his many facial expressions. I could never look up because I was terrified of the moon's face. I couldn't look at the Skull Kid through the telescope for the same reason. I was paralyzed with fear upon seeing the aliens at Romani Ranch. I hated watching mask transformations. I hated Gibdos. I cried out of fear the first time I saw the hand come out of the toilet in the Stock Pot Inn.
And to this day, I've still loved it with all my heart. It's so wonderfully eerie, and though the time limit can get a bit bothersome, it's only a minor setback compared to the game itself. I love how each dungeon is designed, and I cherish every puzzle. Every sidequest, no matter how tedious, is curiously intriguing and satisfying. I can't really explain the exact appeal, but I love this game fiercely. If they create a version for 3DS, I will purchase both a 3DS and the game, and play tirelessly until I have cleared every temple, learned every song, defeated every Spider, collected every mask, explored and exploited every glitch and cheat there is to be explored and exploited. I am very hopeful for the remake.
