Platforming Elements

Yes, I really like the word elements.

Anyways, for the vets, these games have always been strong on platforming and RPG at the same time (except SPM, but we don't speak of that). What are your favorite and least favorite platforming elements that you've seen thrown in the games? We've seen things like special moves (the paper moves - boat, tube, plane, dimensional switch), expert jumps (ground pounds, spin jumps...) and mad hammer skillz. We've seen our partners doing wacky things to help us out. What would you like to see return?

My favorites have always been and will always be A) Yoshi and B) spinning around in Paper Mario 64. I also really hated using the boat, because it felt way too restricted. Since we've basically confirmed no partners so far, I'd like to see Mario get his spin ability back, then bring back all of the basic actions. That would make a good game in this area for me. Everything else like Paperization is just more fun nonsense.

One thing I hope they do is not go overboard with the whole paperization technique. TTYD had just enough to make it refreshing, not gimmicky. This installment needs to do the same. Aside from that I expect more of the same, which is fine by me.

I feel like I remember actually hearing that players would want to test that out on almost everything they could. It's a bit unfortunate, but I figure it won't be too much to deal with. It seems like a simple process, even if it is a bit bothersome to use over and over again. I could be way off with this, but I think it was during the 3DS Demonstration from E3 that I heard it.

Since it is such a new feature, I feel like it might be the center point of the game. Not anything I want to call attention to, but remember how big the 3D/2D thing in Super Paper Mario was? I'd imagine it'd be about the same for this game - new feature gets way too much attention. That might just be my insanity speaking, but I'd actually be a bit surprised if it didn't play a large role in how the game worked. Game developers are weird, so they're gonna get the most use out of any brand new innovative feature that they possibly can, no matter how annoying it might end up being.

It's a common tactic. If the developer is any good though, it's rarely IN YO' FACE. Naughty Dog used it a lot in the Jak and Daxter series - Jak 2 introduced guns that were rewards for missions and everything, Jak 3 introduced more guns and cars. These things were huge in the games, but it was kind of a welcome change with how well it was done, and I have a feeling Nintendo can actually do the same thing. They're Nintendo. =P

That doesn't mean it won't be annoying, but that's a different issue. D= It just depends on the overall execution.

For whatever reason, I don't think Nintendo is going to over saturate the 3D "world" in this game. We haven't seen any evidence yet that would prove otherwise, and you can bet if it did they'd be raving about it in order to hype up the game to huge expectations. For the most part, Paper Mario: Sticker Star has been pretty under the radar, and I'm totally fine with that. I'd much rather see a quality game and know little to nothing about its features than one hyped over a few "new" features.

Well if you think about it, we have already seen a lot of talk about some of the features, such as the stickers, and the turn-based battle system. I can already tell the by the release date there is going to be a lot more talk about the features of the game. Another thing is, I really hope that this isn't the kind of game that by the release date, we know so much about it, that we can practically guess the storyline to it. I, personally, am really bad with spoilers, so that would not be a good thing for me.
