Overworld

While the subject has been touched on a little bit in this thread, I feel it deserve a full, expansive area of discussion.

From what we've seen so far, it's very possible that there might be a hub screen:



That's the only image I could find. This looks very much to me like a hub screen, which is something none of us really want from a Paper Mario. And I'm going to be referring to this as an overworld because...well, it kinda is. Thing is, that's not something that's "the norm" in Paper Mario, and it'll just feel completely awkward if we do get it. What are your thoughts on this huge change? Do you think (or hope) that this could just be a map?


If it does end up being an overworld, I have to say that I'm not a big fan of it. That's where it appears to be going so far. Overworlds should stay in platformers, such as Super Mario 3D Land or Super Mario Galaxy 2. I would absolutely love for this to be a progressive map (ex. one that shows how far you are and how close you are from/to a certain place), but it looks a bit too much like an overworld for my personal tastes. It could also be a magical map, such as what The Thousand-Year Door uses to show the Crystal Stars, but I just...I doubt it for some reason.

What's your take on the whole subject?

I will say one thing on this subject though. If they want to make a platformer in the style of Paper Mario, do it. Just make it graphically Paper Mario, and don't try and give it a storyline. Remake SMB in that graphic style - it'd be cool. But don't give us an entire game with a crazy storyline similar to SMB's layout. It's not something we're sure we want. Platformers should be simple, RPGs should be big and all out. I don't really like when the games mix completely.

1) Blue spaces = minor levels

2) Red spaces = contains one of those generic bosses

3) Repeat process in different landscapes

I would think something like this, only maybe the red spaces are completed levels and the blue spaces are not completed? It kind of makes more sense to me if it was that. But you never know, I guess. I still wish that it was like the other games, though.

Again, I feel like Nintendo is going too much towards the main Mario games. I don't really like it. :/
